President Josephson welcomed the guests and members. Judge Moore, who was to have been the prin cipal speaker, was absent due to illness. Speeches were made by County Agent W. O. Davis, 'Geo rge C. 'Green, W. L. Knight, Fletcher Gregory, Ellis Faber, president of the Scotland Neck Merchants Association, Alfred N. Martin, representing the Roanoke Rapids Merchants Association, and Julian R. Allsbrook. The Roanoke Rapids Kiwams Club will have Ladies Night next Thursday night with a banquet at the Womans Club Building. A special program is being raranged and Ball Medford of Oxford, Lt. Governor of the 5th Division, will be the guest of honor. PANNILL-WELLS Mrs. G. W. Wells announces the marriage of her daughter, Lucy Mae, to Mr. Ernest Linwood Pan nill on Monday, January the 22nd, 1934, Petersburg, Va. At home after February 1st, 114 S. West Street, Petersburg, Va. This is Jiggs—who is miss ing from home. Mrs. M. R. Stein berg, his owner, is offering a reward for his safe return—no questions asked. Details on back page. Jiggs is a little dog, only standing about eight inches high. In this picture he looks like Boola, but Boola is a couple feet high, so please don’t make a mistake. (Continued three pages over) |AURELIAN SPRINGS GIRL CHAMPIONS The championship girls team of Aurelian Sp rings High School which won the Bi-County Kiwanis Club Basketball Tournament which ended here, Mon day night. This group of fighters won the admira tion of tournament fans, 1,800 of whom attended t he three day meet. It was impossible to get the names of the girls in proper order. However, on the extrem e right, next to the, coach, is Janie Hedgepeth, high scorer of the tournament, most popular with the fans and selected as All-Tournament forward. Porter of Aurelian Springs made the second team. Other players shown here are Harris, Qualls, Wilson, Lewis and Wood. WOUNDED CHILD IS BETTER Bad Negro Was Fugitive On Another Shooting Charge At Time Willie Jones, notorious Negro, better known ias Bull Rider, is in jail at Halifax charged with the shooting and wounding of a 12 year old white girl, Mary Elizabeth Parker, at the home of Dock Finer in South Rose mary, Sunday night. Officers reconstructing the case are finding it difficult to get a true story of what took place at the time, of the actual shooting. Kerr, and Postmaster John L. Vest has received notification that a Postoffice Inspector from Rich mond will pay a visit to Roanoke Rapids within a few days.
