Carolina’s Only TABloid NEWSpaper The Roanoke Rapids Herald VOLUME NINETEEN_ ROANOKE RAPIDS, N. C., THURSDAY, APRIL 5th, 1934 NUMBER FIFTY-ONE a J vr UP AND DOWN T3he Avenue WITH THE EDIYOR Miss Evelyn Carroll is recover ing from an operation at the local hospital. Mrs. Brown Thompson is re ported ill at the Roanoke Rap ids Hospital. The Mayor has ordered the po lice to fulfill the law after this final warning concerning the pay ment of dog tax licenses which have been past due since last July. If you have, not bought your dog tag, better do so at once as this is the last chance, according to the police. Parking in front of the fire plugs in Roanoke Rapids or any other North Carolina city is not a city ordinance; it is a vio lation of the State law to do so and the Mayor and police wish this to be brought to the attention of motorists for the seenth time. The excuse often is that there is no parking space elsewhere. But that is the very time when this space must be left open in ease of fire. The police dept, has been very lenient in the past but the time has come when somebody will be pulled and fined. So don’t say you haven’t been warned aplenty. The same thing applies to the space in front of the theatres. This, also, must be left free in case of fire. Otherwise, a crowd streaming from the. building would find itself jammed up by parked cars when the entire street should be, left open for the overflow rush. You would not want your car parked there in a case like that, would yod? Of course, it is very gratify ing to have so much traffic that parking space is at a premium, but we still have plen ty of room on the side streets and, if it is not raining, the walk of a block or less, will not do a great deal of harm. More and more folks are coming to Roanoke Rapids to do their shop ping and go to the theatres and we welcome them 'all. Please don’t worry about the parking problem for some way will be devised to handle it when it be comes a real problem hefe.
