BLUE SOX STAGE A COMEBACK Beat Shell Independents By Close Score Score of 4 to 3 In Saturday Game The Blue Sox came back Sat urday to get their long waited re venge over the Independent Shell nine by taking a close 4-8 decis ion on Simmons field. Hardison, Blue Sox hurler, kept his ten blows well scattered to chalk up the mound count over Lefty Everettg, young Shell twirl er. Each pitcher allowed ten hits. The Sox tallied in the opening frame. Taylor got on by running out a grounder and Crowder doub led two fielders choice by Ryals and Outland sent iff the two counts. Newsome, Shell lad, scored in the same frame when I. Dickens doubl ed and Starke singled to score him. The game hooked up in the third. I. Dickens singled, swiped a sack and advanced to third when Gar ris was out at first, then Starke came through again by singling to score Dickens. But Bill Pace’s boys turned the tables in the fifth. Fann singled, Taylor sacrificed to advance Fann, and Hux got a base knock to score the run that broke the dead lock. Ryals singled to score Hux with the fourth marker. In the seventh the Sox got a score when the Shell outfit loaded the bases after Speight and Everette had singled. Hardison hit Cheek to fill the sacks and I. Dickens flyed out to Ryals bringing home Speight with the third run. This was the second out and the third came as Garris popped to first to relieve the Sox somewhat. I. Dickens got a double and two singles. Starke two singles and Speight a double and single to lead the losers. Ryals and Browning connected with two blows each and Hardison hit a two bagger and single to pace the Blue Sox. Young Webster will be remembered by his many friends here for his brilliant record as “tackle” on the un defeated Roanoke Rapids High School Football team of 1932. Buckner, 82, of Triplet, Va., died Sunday night, June 3rd, at the Memorial Hospital in Rich mond, Va. He was a devoted chirst ian and a member of Fountain’s Creek Baptist Church, near Brink, Va. Funeral services were conduct ed by Rev. Gordon Price at the grave. Interment was at Triplet, Va. Surviving are his widow and the following children: Charlie, of Carsville, Va., John, of Warren ton, William, of Triplet, Va., G. The pallbearers were: Bruce Camp, Everette Crawder, Jack ENFIELD BEAT BY SHELL 9 Score 9 to 3 Over County Rivals In Game Last Friday Afternoon The Independents all dressed up in their Shell uniforms went places Friday on Simmons Field by de feating the Enfield nine 9-3. “Drity” Johnson pitched steady ball ollowing seven hits while his mates went on to collect fifteen hits from the offerings of Alls brook, Enfield hurler. The locals got an early start and the stick work of Ervin Dick ens and Chester Allsbrook feat ured the Shell lads batting attack. Dickens had a perfect day at bat by hitting each of his five trips to the plate and Allsbrook got four for five. W.
