FATHERS URGED TO ATTEND JOINT PTA MEET NEXT MONDAY Cale Burgess, of Raleigh, To Be Speaker Of Evening At High School A joint meeting of the Parent Teachers Association will be held in the High School Auditorium next Monday evening, January 21st to which all parents are invited and especially urged to attend. The meeting is being held at night in order that more fathers may attend. Cale Burgess, of Ra leigh, will be the princp'e speaker of the evening, and will make a short talk on the school situation today. Mr. Bui-gess is well-known throughout the state, and it is ex pected that a great number of those interested in schools will take advantage of this unusual op portunity to hear him. This meeting is a part of the legislative program undertaken by the Parent-Teachers Association this year. Miss Walker To Wed Rob. Conroy Speight On Friday night the Fidelis Class of the Bapist church at Littleton entertained at a surprise party and miscellaneous shower at the home of Mrs. J. W. Benton, honoring Miss Edna Walker, one of their members whose marriage to Rob ert Conroy Speight of Roanoke Ra pids, will take place on Saturday afternoon, January 19th. The lower floor, which was thrown ensuite, was beautifully decorated for the occasion. The honoree was called to the front door where a message was delivered to her advising her to follow a line which was fastened to the door. At the end of the line in the lower reception hall she found a table piled with many lovely and useful gifts. After the gifts were opened the guests were invited into the dining room to cut the cake. The dinting table was covered with an important lace cloth and centered with a lovely brdies cake. White tapers in silver holders were placed on each side. The honoree was first to cut the cake and was surpris ed to find that she had cut the ring which was unusual at this time. Peach cream, cake and mints was served to the following: Miss Edna Walker, Mrs. Lee Riggan, Mrs. E. T. Epps, Mrs. O. H. Curran, Mrs. Bobbie Newsom, Mrs. J. E. Stransburg, Mrs. Ed Hale, Mrs. J. Farmer, Mrs. J. L. Evett, Mrs. H. A. Hunt, and Miss Mary Louis Twisdale. Blue Monday Club Mrs. Wilber Anderton was host ess on Monday afternoon to the Blue Monday Club. There were eight players engaged in an in teresting game of progressive con tract at the conclusion of whfch the scores were collected and Mrs. Fletcher Dickens was awarded a prize as high score winner. A salad course was served to the fol lowing players: Mesdames J. W. Harrell, J. T. Chase, Jack Young, H. S. Loy, Fletcher Dickens, Rob ert Cleaton, W. A. China and J. M. C. Covington. Girl Flying Mails WASHINGTON . . . Miss Helen Richey, 25, (above), is flying the mail on the Washington to Detroit run. She is the first woman to win the right to wear Uncle Sam’s Air mail Wings over her left coat pocket. Helen has 1000 flying hours to her credit. Mrs. Camp Hostess Mrs. Hugh Camp was hostess on Monday evening to the Monday night Brfjdge Club and a few ad ditional guests. There were three tables of players and at ten fif teen the scores were added with Miss Margaret Clark winning high. She was presented an attractive sport handkerchief. A salad course was served to the following guest after six progressions: Mesdames H. S. Loy, Alfred Martin, Julian Allsbrook, Howard Pruden, Paul Heydenrcih, F. E. Ladies Aid Circle Ladies Aid Circle No. 2 met with Miss Rena Radcliffe on Mon day n%ht. The lesson text taken from the 14th chapter of John was read and discussed.
