when Hobgood tied the score and
holding the tie until the 12th in

in a thrilling game at Simmons
Park yesterday afternoon and then
allowed an error and a bunting

The local team outhit Hobgood,
getting 14 hits, driving Knight
from the mound in the 6th inning.
Parker finished strong. The visit
ors hit Acree^and Starke for 10
hits.
Acree held them hitless until
the 6th inning and was taken out
in the 7th when the visitors got
five hits. Starke allowed 4 hits
in 5 and a half innings.
Dickens led the locals with three
hits, one a 3 bagger, Outland with
a 3 bagger and single, Garris a
double. Allsbrook, Davis and A
eree had two singles each.
Parker, winning pitcher, got 3
singles. Sanford, huge first base
man, hit a home run with two men
on in the unlucky 7th.
Ahoskie Coming
The league-leading Ahoskie team
will play Roanoke Rapids here
Saturday afternoon. The game
will start at 3:30, a half hour
earlier than week-day games.
The slogan is “Beat Ahoskie”
which has one of the best semi
pro teams ever seen on the local
diamond and a stirring game is in
the offing for Saturday.
Womble On Team
Jimmie Womble, hard-hitting,
clever-fielding player on Carolina
will add strength to the Roanoke
Rapids team when he appears
here with them in Saturday’s
game.
Jimmie reported for practice this
Tuesday and will beome a perma
nent member of the local squad.
Birdsong Coming
To further strengthen the bat
ting and fielding of the Roanoke
Rapids team, fans will be delight
ed to know that Russell Birdsong,
than whom there is none better in
this game, will report for practice
some time next week.
Sticking to the plan to use only
local boys on the team, it appears
that another week will sc% the
squad comprised of a hard-hitting,
winning bunch of local boys.
Birdsong plays any of the nine
positions on a ball club, including
pitching and catching, and is a
consistent hitter.

Mrs. Turner Entertains
Mrs. C. R. Turner of Weldon
was the hostess last Wednesday
afternoon at her home on Elm
Street to her contract bridge club
and guests. High score prize was
awarded Mrs. T. J. McKim. Those
playing were Mesdames T. J. Mc
Kim, C. F. Gore, G. H. Nash, Grace
Kennedy, both of Roanoke Rapids,
S. G. Morehorn, W. G. Suiter, J. T.
Maddrey and D. W. Seifert. The
guests were served a salad course.

Finishers walloped No. 1 Weavers
16-2. Wolhar, with three hits, led
the winners. Lyles also got three
for the losers. Mills was the field
ing star.
No. 3 Weavers landed No. 2
Spinners a 12-6 setback in League
play. Sadler, with three hits, led
the winners, while J. Hoggard, al
so with three, paced the losers.
The heavy hitting weavers got
twelve hits.
No. 3 Spinners hopped all over

a blasting 19-5 victory. Birdsong
