Miss Vola Glover and Miss Merle Bell are attending summer school at Wake Forest College. Mr. and Mrs. Major Morris of Rocky Mount spent Sunday here as the guests of Mrs. L. A. Hud-' son. Miss Marie Coffee of Lynch burg, Va., is spending some time as the guest of Mrs. Frank Wil liams. Mrs. David Traynham had as her guests for the week-end Mrs. Albert Cannaday, Mrs. Hugh Childress and Mrs. Junius Good man of Christiansburg, Va. Mrs. F. M. Sherry and Mrs. Zol lie Powell spent Saturday in Rich mond, Va. Williams will be glad to know that he is much improved after a recent illness. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Kidd and family spent Sunday in Seaboard. Miss “Jack” Armstrong is visit ing her sister, Mrs. David Bright in Greenville. Brown—Joyner A wedding of much interest to Roanoke Rapids occurred in Garys burg, N. C. on last Wednesday when Miss Mary Virginia Joyner, daughter of Mrs. W. H. Joyner, was united in marriage to John William Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Brown of Garysburg. The wedding took place at the home of the bride with Rev. Ches ter, pastor of Garysburg M. E. Church officiating. Mrs. Selden of Weldon rendered the wedding mu sic, playing several lovely selec tions before and during the cere mony. Mrs. Dixon of Winston Salem sang “0 Promise Me,” “Sweetest Story Ever Told,” and “I Love You Truly.” The bride was dressed in a lovely pink af- j ternoon dress with picture hat to match and carried a corsage of roses and valley lilies. The home of the bride was a scene of beauty profusely decorated in Doratea Perkins Roses, Queen Ann’s Lace, ferns and tall standards holding lighted cathedral candles. The ceremony was performed before an improvised altar. The bride is the lovely daughter of Mrs. W. H. Joy ner of Garysburg, N. C. She is one of Eastern North Carolina’s most attractive young ladies. Mr. Brown is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Brown of Garysburg and holds a responsible position here in Roanoke Bank and Trust Com pany. After an extended northern trip they will make their home here at the home of the groom’* sister, Mrs. Howard Pruden. Mrs. Julian Allsbrook is also sister of the groom. The week preceding the wedding the bride was much entertained. Mrs. Marlow and Mrs. Cates of Weldon entertained at a tea, Mrs. Selden of Weldon entertained with bridge, Mrs. R. E .Brown gave a luncheon, Mrs. Overton Suiter entertained with bridge. Ur. and Mrs. W. G. Suit er of Weldon gave, a dinner and following the ceremony a recep tion was held at the home of the bride with about two hundred rel atives and friends present. — - _ Misses Bennie Allsbrook, Viola Collier, Frances Hines spent Sun day in Nashville. Mrs. R. C. Hardy and daughter, Angela, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Marion Saunders in Suffolk, Va. Miss Blanche White of Powera ville was the week-end guest of Miss Ruth White.
