“A THOUSAND White Dogs For Sale” is what Miss Fan
ny’s Sunshine Girls of The Kings Daughters are advertis
ing. They say they will sell next week one thousand white
dogs of every breed known to man. What’s more they will
be sold for five cents each. And all the proceeds of the sale
will be used by the Kings Daughters to get clothing for a lit
tle orphan girl. So when some small Roanoke Rapids girl
comes up to you next week to sell you a dog for a nickel,
dig down and bark “Yes”—and no growling afterwards.
MIKE FAISON’S big pig, which created so much excite
ment. weighed 717'/2 pounds when dressed. Winner of the
guessing contest on the correct weight was an employee of
Patterson Mills Co., whose name we could not get before
press time. The pig was on display in his pen back of Pat
terson Pool and hundreds of people visited the pen to gape
and guess.
ADDED to the continual growing number of electric display
signs on the Avenue is a new one just installed in front of
Matthews Drug Co. This one is also very attractive in neon
colors and to be different and eye attracting has atop it a
palpitating mortar and pestle.—Yeah. We had to ask a
druggist what one of those things are called.
ANOTHER White Way street light standard is being placed
this week on the new P.O. corner. It happened the Munici
pal Building inherited the regular one in that block. In
order to show off the new P.O. building at night and light
up the 7th Street side, the city fathers ordered the new
light.
SUB-POSTMASTER F. C. Hege of R.R.P.O. No. 2 shows
for the year total stamp sales of $2,868.67 which is 14 per
cent o,f the stamps sold in the city last year. He also wrote
5,577 money orders for $34,815.10. All of which tells lots
of things, but mainly that the sub-station in the North
Ward did not lack for customers during 1935.
SENATOR Julian R. Allsbrook will be the speaker at the
Sunday morning service, 11 a.m., at the Rosemary Baptist
Church.
MASONS of Halifax and vicinity enjoyed an oyster roast
at Bud’s Place last night. We call Bud’s, on the corner across
from the court house, the Crossroads of Halifax County.
Wait in there long enough and you will see everybody who
is anybody in the whole county.
JUDGE R. Hunt Parker, resident judge of this judicial dis
trict, will preside at the January term of Halifax Superior
Court. Due here once every five years, the judge has ar
ranged a trade of districts with another judge in order to
return to his home county sooner.
VALENTINE Party for the ladies will be staged by Ki
wanis at their meeting Thursday night, Feh. 13th.—The an
nual Kiwanis Minstrel will be one month later, Friday,
March 13th.—Jay Saunders, Rosemary Concert Band Lead
er, was a guest at the club tonight.—
