i Halifax County Women Hostesses Here April 16th -0 The Halifax County Federation of Home Demonstration Clubs will entertain the Fourteenth District Federation in Roanoke Rapids on April 16 at 10:30 a.m. The morn ing session will be held in the High School Auditorium, Lunch eon and afternoon session at the Chockoyotte Country Club. Mrs. J. P. Brown, of Northamp ton County, will preside at this meeting. Representatives from each ot the five counties comprising the District are expected. Halifax County Club women are expecting approximately 450 or £00 people in attendance at this meeting. This meeting is held annually with different counties, being held in Weldon four years ago. The afternoon program will consist of a Garden Playlet entitled “Mis tress Mary’s Garden” an<j[ will be presented by Halifax, Tillery, Calvary, South Rosemary, Rose neath, Spring Hill, Ringwood, Hol lister, Darlington, and Dawson Clubs. Weather permitting this playlet will be given on the lawn at the Country Club. On the morning program at the Roanoke Rapids High School audi torium will be the welcome ad dress by Mrs. R. L. Applewhite, President of the Halifax County Federation and by Mayor Kelly Jenkins of Roanoke Rapids. After the business session, greetings will be given by Mrs. W. A. Thorne, district president of the N. C. Federated Womans "Clubs, and Mrs. J. Brooks Tuck er of Grimesland, State president of the N. C. Federated Home Dem onstration Clubs. The principal address will be given by Dr. Jane S. McKimmon, N. C. State Home Demonstration Agent. ;, Mrs. Hazel Wheeler, Halifax County Home Demonstration A gent, is chairman in charge of the convention. County reports will be heard from Franklin, Halifax, Northampton, Vance and Warren counties. Miss Hines Hostess Miss Frances Hines entertained on Tuesday evening the members of her bridge club; there were eight guests to enjoy the delight ful hospitality of Miss Hines. Mrs. Beaman Helms held the highest score for the evening and was presented an attractive prize. A sweet course was served. Miss Hines’ guests for the evening were Misses Elizabeth Wilson, Speck Hines, Virginia Bell Vincent, Mary Wolhar, Margaret Dunning, Ben nie Allsbrook, Mrs. Jimmie Out ran and Mrs. Beaman Helms. Dr. Covington On Davidson Council -0 DAVIDSON, N. C., April 2. - Roanoke Rapids alumni of David son college are taking an active part in the work of the alumni association of the Presbyterian institution which next year cele brates its 100th anniversary. Dr. J. M. C. Covington, who has recently been chosen to fill a va cancy in the Alumni Council, lives in Roanoke Rapids. This or ganization is composed of leading Davidson alumni who have shown exceptional interest in the af fairs of tlje institution. The Davidson Alumni Council will meet during the Commence ment exercises this year, May 30 to June 2, at which time plans will be made for the celebration of the Centennial of the founding of the college. Leonidas Hux is announced today by her mother, Mrs. Sion Alford Carr of Wallace, the wedding will take place in Wallace in the near future. Miss Canr, who makes her home in Kenansville, is Deputy Clferk of the Court of Duplin County. Mr. Hux is the popular Clerk of the Superior Court of Halifax County. Home Demonstration Clubs which will be held on next Thursday, lunch to be served to all attend ing the meeting at the High School Building. Members of the Womans Club offered their ser vices to the committees in charge of the various recreational cen ters for the summer. « The Girl Scouts pnder the di rection of Miss Lucy Mayfield put on a delightful program. Lillian Lee had charge of the girls’ work. Miss Mayfield gave a talk on the history and purpose of the girl scouts.
