The home was beautifully decorated with a profusion of spring flow ers. The centerpiece for the din ing room table being a big birth day cake with ten lighted can dles. A. of the Rosemary Baptist Church held its regular meeting in the church Thursday evening, April 23rd at 7:30. Miss Lillian Belle Jenkins, president of the auxiliary, presided. A short business session preceded the pro gram. Devotional was led by El la Brown, who read passages of scripture from the Book of Exo dus, followed with prayer by Paul ine Kendrick. The program, “A Woman of Rare Deeds and Vi sions” - a study of the life of Miss Fannie E. S. Heck - was presented by the program chairman. In teresting phases of Miss Heck’s life were effectively discussed, each discussion followed by an ap propriate song. Those taking part on the program were Misses Hattie Humphrey, Annie Acree, Lillian Belle Jenkins, Pauline Kendrick, Mesdames Edw. Smoot, Graham Lynch, Geo. Pappendick.. -o B.Y.P.U. Roast A weinie roast was enjoyed by the members of B.Y.P.U. of Rose mary Baptist Church Tuesday eve ning on Monroe Street. -o 1st Methodist Church Church School - 9:45 a.m. Church Worship - 11:00 a.m. Sermon, “The Supreme Friend”. WELDON METHODIST -o Circle No. 2 of the Mary Pierce Johnson Missionary Society of the 1 Weldon Methodist Church met in the home of Mrs. Eva Bishop on Monday evening, April 27, at 8 o’clock, with Mrs. A. M. Inge and Mrs. J. T. D. Rawlings as joint hostesses. There were 15 mem bers present. Mrs. Lawrence McKirdy called the meeting to order with a song which was followed by the Devo tinoal reading by Mrs .L. C. Dra per. A very interesting leaflet was given by Mrs. J. W. Sledge. After a brief business session the hostesses served delicious re freshments consisting of ice cream, cup cakes and salted nuts. -u Mrs. J. Wallace Shearin is still a patient at Roanoke Rapids Hos pital. She has been very ill but her condition is said to be slov, ly improving. Mr. R. C. KING TELLS A WONDERFUL STORY ABOUT RATS. READ IT. They were accompa nied to Emporia by her brother and first cousin, J. Wallace Shear in and E. Wilbert Cullom. Mr. and Mrs. Walsh will make their home on Jackson St. in Roanoke Rapids. -o Pauline Shearin Funeral Tuesday _n_ Miss Pauline. Stearin of the Churchill neighborhood quietly passed away late Monday after noon after a brief illness of pneu monia. She was an active member of B.Y.P.U. and Sunday School of Gardner’s Baptist Church and a student of Macon High School. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Pete Carter, formerly Mrs. Gilliam Shearin, three brothers: Jesse of Halifax, N. C., Willis, Herman Shearin of Churchill, also one half-brother, Junior Carter; three sisters, Hazel Shearin, Mrs. Peco Insco and Mrs. Siam Wilson, both of Littleton. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternono at 3 o’clock at her home and burial followed in — Teachers’ Club The Teachers’ Bridge Club met Saturday night at the home of Miss Margie Cannon with Miss 1 Margie Carson as joint hostess. Tulips and other cut flowers, ar ranged in baskets and vases, were placed about the living room and hall. Miss Mary Cannon was a warded a set of perfume bottles for high score. Miss Evelyn Cald well received the traveling prize, a box of Elizabeth Arden powder. The refreshments carried out the idea of potted plants. Ice cream garnished with chocolate and flow ers gave this realistic picture. The guests and club guests pres ent were: Misses Evelyn and Mar gie Caldwell, Evelyn and Aman da Tillman, Mary and Sara Can non, Cathrine Reid, Frances New some, Elizabeth Dover, Mary Hix, Henriette Price, Mesdames Thel ma Daughtry, Tom White, Cran ford Hoyle, Tommie Martin and John Marcus Smith. -o Miss Willie Harris and Miss Martha Speight spent the week end in Emporia with friends. the Gardner’s Cemetery of Church ill.
