Complete Details Page 11 - Inside AURELIAN SPRINGS CLUB SCORES HIGHEST IN STATE The members of the Aurelian Springs Chapter of Young Tar Heel Farmers pictured on the front page of this issue are very happy these days. Roy H. Thomas, State Supervisor of Agricultural Edu cation, has just declared them the high scoring Chapter in the State Wide Contest for 1936. The Chap ter score was 717 points out of a possible 845. The big fellow on the right is Chapter advisor and Teacher of Agriculture, E. K. Veach. On the left is Principal V. C. Matthews standing beside County Superintendent A. E. A kers of Halifax County. Over Su perintendent Akers’ shoulder is District Supervisor, N .B. Ches nutt, with E. W. Liles, Chariman of the local school board, just un der the window. In the center picture President Roger Gupton is receiving the $100 check of a ward from E. N. Meekins, State Supervisor of The Agricultural Development Bureau of The Bar rett Company, Manufacturers of Arcadian, The American Nitrate of Soda. The Barrett Company is copoerating with the Division of Vocational Education State De partment of Public Instruction in conducting the contest. Chapter winners in the other three districts of the state are the Candor Chap ter, Montgomery County, in Dis trict Three with 622 points; the Apex Chapter, Wake County, in District One, with 605 points; and the Woodleaf Chapter, Rowan County, in District Four with 591 points. Each of these Chapters received prizes of $50 for winning in their respective district. The Aurelian Springs Chapter, in ad dition to being declared State win ner, is also winner for District Two and, therefore, will keep the loving cup shown in the picture during the coming year.
