Hedgepeth and Robert Cleaton were elected members of the Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District Board in the Saturday primary. Old Board Are Winners With the large** vote on record, Halifax County t* the polls Saturday and' foforan two of the largest ballots seen in some years in State and county races. Dr. T. W. M. Long won over Ju lian R. Allsbrook with a majority of 122 votes. The county vote was Long _ 4924 Allsbrook 4802 Roanoke Rapids cast a record vote in this race with the total of the four township precincts, in cluding South Rosemary, as fol lows: Allsbrook_2138 Long _ 1976 The entire Board of County Com missioners was re-elected: Messrs. Whitaker, Warren, Wrenn, Perry and Collier. Kerr Winner Congressman John H. Kerr car ried Halifax County over A. O. Dickens by a 266 majority. The total vote was Kerr 4472, Dickens 4206. Judge Kerr carried every county in the district except Wil son County and won by a majority of nearly 5,000. Wade Dickens won over Bernard Allsbrook for Solicitor by a vote of 5573 to 3623. Cooper was reelected Coroner by a large majority over Sam Young and John Zollicoffer. Textile Club To Open Here June 17th For Guests The Textile Club will open June 17th here at the old J. A. Moore house, 502 Washington St. The house has been fixed up for the purpose of providing quarters for officials of Simmons Company and Rosemary Sales Inc. of New York and Chicago, selling agents for the local mills, and also to ac commodate buyers of the products of the local mills. This will give customers of the mills an opportunity to visit the mills and see displays of the prod ucts here and will also provide suitable quarters for officials of the mills and their selling agency. By bringing buyers here it is hoped to build up good will with the customers and thus help to provide more orders and more steady employment in the local mills. RE-ELECTED TO CONGRESS Congressman John H. Kerr McDonald Sweeps Halifax County In Governor Race SWAMPED IN COUNTY CLYDE HOEY Dr. Ralph McDonald, foe of the sales tax, swept Halifax County Saturday in the primary, altho trailing Clyde Hoey in the State. The final State vote Hoey_ 193,862 McDonald _ 189,542 Graham_ 125,078 McRae _ 6,736 None having received a major ity, Hoey and McDonald will run it off in the second primary on July 4th. In Halifax County, McDonald ran away from his three oppo nents. The county vote was McDonald _ 6162 Graham _ 2076 Hoey - 1323 McRae _ 55 McDonald also had a landslide in Roanoke Rapids. The vote in the four precincts here was McDonald _ 3395 Graham _ 380 Hoey - 267
