(PHOTO BY GRANT) The drive for funds for the Associated Chari ties of Roanoke Rapids got under way today with solicitors visiting all the merchants and other bus iness men in the city for cash and merchandise do nations. The drive will continue tomorrow and Saturday in an effort to raise sufficient funds to take care of the poor and needy of Roanoke Rapids who will have no other means of charity this Win ter and for emergency cases which arise every Winter. RALLIES HELD IN COUNTY With the general election next Tuesday, November 3rd, the only time in four years the nation e lects a President, local Democrats^ under the leadership of County Chairman John W. Martin, are making a final drive to get out every Democratic vote in Roanoke Rapids and Halifax County. The entire Democratic ticekt, headed by President Franklin D. Roose velt, is entitled to the support of every person of voting age because of what the Democratic Party has done in pulling the country out of the depression, say party spokes men. Monday night saw a rally of Democrats at the High School * hWldliig fie**, TUefeday niitht saw a similar rally at Scotland Neck, ■ and a third rally here is in prog ress tonight. “Get out the Demo cratic vote”, is the slogan as the day of election draws near. “Now is the time for every good Demo crat to come to the aid of his Par ty”, is the cry of those who would see Halifax County once more the banner Democratic county of the State. The polls will open at daybreak Tuesday, Nov. 3rd, which will be about 6:30 a.m. and will close at (Continued on Back Page) INJURED! Congressman John II. Kerr of Warrenton was injured in an au tomobile collision near Nashville Saturday night Mrs. Kerr stated Monday her husband was not critically hurt but was suffering much pain and would be confined to his bed for a month. Arthur Parker, who lives near Nashville, was arrested as the driver of the car which collided with the Kerr car, being driven by a chauffeur. Parker was charged with drunken and reckless driving. Judge Kerr has been forced to cancel aO speaking engagements. He was scheduled to speak in Boanoke Rapids Monday night
