News From The Christian Church Allah rook To Speak The Men’s Club of the church will meet Saturday night, Nov. 7, from 7 to 7:30, and Mr. Julian R. Allsbrook will speak to the Club. Every member of the Club as well as every man in the church is urg ed to be on hand for this special program. After Mr. Allsbrook’s speech, all those desiring to do so will march down to the basement and have supper with the Faithful Workers Class, who are giving an other supper to help pay for the big and beautiful heater recently placed in the church. We hope all the men will be on hand at the above-mentioned hour. Special i tems of business will come up be fore us at that time. Ladira Buy Shrubs The Ladies Aid is buying shrub bery for the church grounds. This is to beautify the church and grounds, which is an excellent Christian aercvice. Beauty is the .signature of God. Pastor Out of Town The pastor will be out of town from Wednesday to Friday night attending the State Convention of the church which meets at Wilson. Order New Hymnals The church ordered 118 new hymnals this week, all of which should be here for Sunday services. We appreciate the response given Mr. T. M. Davenport who labored on this project. He did a good job and to him our thanks are due. Armistice. Sermon The people of the city, and es pecially those who have been in any kind of military service, are especially invited to hear the ser mon Sunday morning on “What the Unknown Soldier Told Me.’’ This soldier spoke to the pastor of the church, and he comes Sunday morning to tell the people what was said in the conversation. Ev eryone is cordially invited to hear this sermon. Coastal Plains Union The Coastal Plains Union meet ing convenes at this church the fifth Sunday in November. We hope to have all the members of the church present as well as rep resentatives from many other churches in eastern North Caroli na. The College Glee Club from Wilson will be on hand with good special music. Also a quartette from Virginia will sing. 8. 8. Bally Day The Sunday School is having a Rally Day the fourth Sunday in this month. Let us see how many people we can get to Sunday School that day. Let us all rally to the support of our church. Your church is your best friend at all times. Labor to be worthy of this great Christian institution. Calvary Church Rev. W. T. The home coming day held at Calvary last Sunday was much en joyed by the people from Hender son, Roanoke Rapids, Rocky Mt., Weldon, Littleton, and the people of the community. Rev. William Towe of Rocky Mount, a former pastor of Calvary church, preach ed the Sunday morning service, and Dr. T. M. Johnson, pastor of Littleton M. P. church, in the aft ernoon. The Roanoke Rapids Choir, directed by Mr. Alfred Mar tin, sang some beautiful and en oyable hymns. We were glad to have them all with us. Mrs. Rupert E. Ferrell and daughter have returned from a vis it to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Vaughn in Tar boro. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Fulghum and children of Smith’s Church community, visited Mrs. S. C. Rig gins Sunday. E. E. First Baptist Missionary Society The Woman’s Missionary Society of the Roanoke Rapids First Bap tist church met at the home of Mrs. L. W. Clements Tuesday aft ernoon. Ladies Aid Meeting The Enfield Baptist Ladies Aid Society met in the home of Mrs. R. Hunter Pope on Tuesday after noon with twenty members pres ent. Assisting Mrs. Pope as host esses, were Mrs. Joe Pope and Mrs. Nannie Lee Braswell. Mrs. J. B. Britt had charge of the meeting and Mrs. Sam T. Ha bel, Jr., read the Scripture and made beautiful remarks on same. Mrs. Ira Wood, Mrs. J. C. Branch and Mrs. A. C. Nichols Jr. were ap pointed as a nominating commit tee for officers of the society for the coming year. A few dollars was realized from a "country store”. After all busness was transact ed and the meeting dismissed with prayer, the hostesses served a de lightful sweet course. Catholic Church Mass on Sunday at 8 and 10 o’clock. Thank Offering Services The Woman’s Auxiliary of the Enfield M. P. church held their fall “thank offering service” in the church on Monday afternoon with Mrs. Cecil Matthews, thank offer ing secretary, in charge. A beau tiful program of music and read ing was given, after which the thank offering was taken, which approximated twenty-five dollars. Rev. and Mrs. E. O. Peeler and Mrs. Whisnant, were given a vote of thanks for their splendid and untiring services for the past year, and as conference meets Novem ber 4th, the secretary was asked to write to Dr. Andrews. President of the Conference, and ask that they be returned. A telegram of birth day wishes was sent to Mrs. Mary Barnhill, who is in Durham, also a “blue bird" letter was sent her. The hostesses, Mrs. Eli Bellamy and Mrs. George Parker, invited the group to the Hut for the so cial hour, where they served de licious chicken salad with hot cof fee, decorations and favors carry ing out the Halloween idea. Mrs. Fred Vaughn and daugh ter, Patsy, of Tarboro, are visiting Mr. and Mrs, J. L. Hutchinson this week. Missionary Society The Mary Pierce Johnson Mis sionary Society of the Weldon Methodist church held its regular monthly meeting, Monday after noon in the Baraca room. The de votional was led by Mrs. W. B. Joyner. A very interesting leaflet on Social Relationship was read by Mrs. A. W. Oakes, assisted by Mes dames E. G. Garlick, Bill Hudson, C. J. Owen and John Sledge. Miss Kate Garrett, chairman of the nominating committee, submitted the nominees to be elected for of ficers for the coming year, and they were voted on as a whole with Mrs. W. L. Knight as the new pres ident. The Minnie Bomar Mission ary Society will unite with the Mary Pierce Johnson Society in the beginning of the new year. There were about thirty members present. Miss Avy Gray and Henry Gray of Richmond, Va. and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gray and children of Williamston attended the funeral of Willie Gray Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. S. C.
