THE NEW RONOKO

School Paper To Be Incorporated
With The Local Newspaper
- m
The RONOKO is under way a
gain. Beginning with the present
issue, the Herald Printing Com
pany will carry in its regular
weekly edition of the Roanoke
Rapids Herald two pages of news
•f the Roanoke Rapids high school.
Those two pages will be written by
the students of the high school,
and the make up will be done by
the student editors and their staff.
The Herald is in almost every
home in the city, there will not be
any great effort on the part of the
staff to induce the students of the
high school to subscribe to the
RONOKO. However, there will be
copies of the paper for sale by the
circulation manager each Friday
immediately after the paper comes
off the press.
There will also be arrangements
made for those students who want
to subscribe to the paper for one
reason or the other to do so. The
subscription price for the rest of
the year will be around fifty cents.
The exact amount has not been de
termined yet, but the circulation
manager will have that informa
tion soon.
Of course, the staff realizes that
this paper will not be quite as sat
isfactory as a separate edition of
the RONOKO would be. But as
the paper is young and struggling
to get a start, the students will
have to be content with the pres

The HI CHATTER BOX
Now that we’ve won the North
eastern Championship, we’re head
ed for some more games. Let’s
talk it up to Mr. Davis and as
many of us as possible go to them.
What pretty twelfth grader was
very much upset when a certain
player here was hurt several times
in the Elizabeth City game?
That romance between the first
string fullback and the seventh
grader is still going strong.
Which first string end is crazy
about what tenth grade blonde?
Has Julia Moseley been writing
to a boy up at William and Mary
College, or has she not?
Lucy and Boosie make a cute
sounding couple, don’t they?
The football center is the center
of what young thing’s affection?
Hope the Hi-Y initiation was not
too hard on the new members.
Who is Mildred Lee Moore’s real
heart interest these days?
Sports Paragraphics
Danny Cagle, star center of last
year’s Yellow Jackets, is playing in
the line for the Davidson fresh
men.
"Red” Mason, big tackle of the
1935 Yellow Jacket team, is run
ning in the fullback position for
the Clemson College freshmen.
ent set-up for a while.
Mr. Wilson, editor of the Her
ald, is donating this space to the
students of the Roanoke Rapids
high school. He is n6t asking
anything except that the copy be
in on time.
Mr. Denny, adviser for the RO
NOKO, would like to have some
students who want to do this type
of work to join the staff. However,
he warns them that if they are
simply joining for the novelty of
the thing, they had better employ
themselves elsewhere. Those that
are really interested in the work
for the work’s sake are the ones
that are wanted.
COLLINS FESTIVAL
PRESENTED HERE
Three Other Entertaining Programs
To Be Given Weekly In Auditorium
- *
The Collins Festival Companies
will again be presented in the Roa
noke Rapids High School audito
rium each Wednesday during No
vember at 8 o’clock p.m. under
the auspices of the Woman’s Club.
These entertainments were pre
sented here last spring and proved
to be very popular and entertain
ing.
The DiCrosta-Ferrari Company
of musical varieties was the first
of these shows given here this
year.
Andrew DiCrosta is an able
player of every variety of brass
and reed instruments. His wife,
Lenora • Terrari, has a lovely so
prano voice and also plays the pi
ano and accordion.
A large crowd attended this ex
cellent program, which was mark
ed by its skillfullness and versatil
ity.
The remaining programs include
the Cutler-Griffin Company, El
wood T. Baily, and the Glen Wells
Players.
Cutler-Griffin will present an e
laborate musical program. It sends
before it much praise.
Elwood T. Baily will speak on
“And What Now?” on the third
Wednesday. He will discuss what
is ahead of us. Mr. Baily is the
man to whom the credit for the
great success of the San Diego
Exposition is due. He acted a
vice-president of the fair associa
tion.
The last attraction will be a play,
"Cricket”, enacted by the Glen
Wells Players. It concerns a ser
vant girl, “Cricket” for short, who
enters the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Smith Winters, and the results of
her being there. Of course, there
is a love story woven into the play,
too.
The variety of these different
programs should make them have
a wide appeal. Music, classical and
semi-classical, the best in lectur
ing, and drama are included in
these up-to-date entertainments.
Great interest is anticipated.
Monogram Club
Dance Tonight
Tonight in the High School gym
nasium the Roanoke Rapids Mono
gram Club will hold its third
dance. It is being sponsored by
twenty high school girls who were
chosen by the club. The music will
be furnished by Gene Davis’ or
chestra.
These dances are being put on
by the Monogram Club for the
purpose of raising money for the
school’s athletics. As yet very lit
tle money has been made, but the
students have shown considerable
interest. The dances seem at the
present a possible source for some
extra and needed athletic funds.
The programs thus far have
been a social success. Of course,
only high school students and their
friends are expected to attend. The »
dances are not for the public.
