Mac Johnson The Rocky Mount Group School held its February meeting in the home of Major D. Mac Johnson in (Enfield Wednesday evening. This school meets once a month and some phase of military training or tactics is discussed by Lt. Col. Alexander L. P. Johnson, instructor for the 321st Infantry, which is composed of all Reserve Officers in Eastern North Carolina. At the meeting 2nd Lt. H. B. Hines appeared before a military board for examination for promo tion to First Lieutenant. He pass ed the examination with a very good grade and was recommended for promotion to the next highest grade. A very interesting and in structive lecture on the subject “Battalion in Attack” was given by Lt. Colonel Alexander L. P. Johnson, of Raleigh. Members present were Lt. Col. H. E. Hines, Jr., 313th Inft., of Enfield. The next regular meeting will be held in the Y.M.C.A. at Rocky Mt. Niece Dies Friends of Mrs. Egbert Barn hill, of Enfield, will regret to learn of the death of her niece, Miss Howell, that occurred at Gatling burg, Tenn., this week. HALIFAX On February 12th in her home (correspondent failed to insert name of hostess) celebrated her sixteenth birthday. Several games were played and then lem onade and cake were served to the following guests: Mildred Jor dan, Ruth Barnes, Hughly Clay, Argie Dean Hux, Maggie Ivey and Lucille Shaw of Roanoke Rapids, Mae Belle Gardner, Bunner Neth ery, Irene, Virginia, Grace, Louise and Kathrine Ayers, and Mrs. Nel lie Ivey: Messrs. Norwood, Jack and Will Pittman, Joe Jordan, Ed Smith, Dick Jordan, Mitchell Shearin of Roanoke Rapids, Ed ward Ivey, Ben Nethery, George R. Gardner and McDonald Harris. The table was decorated with blue can dles and the centerpiece was the birthday cake with sixteen blue candles lighted on it. Horace Pittman Jr. has returned from a six weeks vacation in Bal timore. Miss Maggie Ivey of Roanoke Rapids spent Friday night with her brother, Edward Ivey. Miss Mae Belle Gardner is at home from a short visit with her aunt, Mrs. Waverly Shaw. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Ivey spent Saturday night with his mother, Mrs. Pattie Ivey, of Roanoke Rap ids. i LITTLETON Mrs. T. B. Cook was called to Henderson Sunday on account of the Illness of her mother, Mrs. W. F. Moss. Mrs. E. L. Galloway of Farmville, Va. is visiting her sister, Mrs. J. H. Newsom. Garland Daniel of New York is spending some time here with his mother, Mrs. S. G. Daniel. Miss Mary Lyn Coppersmith of Louisburg spent the week-end here. WELDON Thomas Gregory of Washington, D. C. spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Greg ory. Miss Frances King of Greens boro spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. King. Miss Mabel Alston, student of William and Mary College, Rich mond, Va., was the guest of her parents, over the week-end. Miss Margaret Thomas of Tar boro, N. C. visited Miss Bettie Ann Shaw Saturday. Miss Lillie White Boseman of Tarboro, N. C. visited her mother Saturday. Miss Blanch Johnson left Mon day to visit her sister, Mrs. Grace Speck, in San Diego, Cal. Miss Virginia Grant of Garys burg was the guest of Miss Chris tine Alston over the week-end. Miss Virginia Lee Boseman spent the week-end in Norfolk, Va. Mrs. William Camper of Rich mond, Va. spent the week-end with Mrs. Forest Taylor. Temple Chappel, who has been in Baltimore for some time, re turned home this week. John Daniel visited in Richmond, Va. Monday and Tuesday. Calvary-Thelma Mr. and Mrs. Harold Myrick and son of Mount Airy spent the week end here with Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Myrick. Mr. and Mrs. Hester Lee and daughter of Four Oaks spent last Monday here with Mrs. Tom King. Mrs. Harry House of Thelma was called to her home in Windsor last week on account of the death of her brother. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Perkinson and son and Mrs. J. C. HOLLISTER PTA MEETS The Hollister P.T.A. held its reg ular monthly meeting on Wednes day night, February 17. -After the business session, Founders Day was observed with a very impressive pageant, The Birthday Cake. Speakers on the program were Mesdames B. C. Hamlet, A. M. Shearin, R. P. Harris, T. C. Tualls and May Alston. Following the program a social hour was enjoyed. Enfield Birthday Party Miss Josephine Britt, attractive young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Britt of Enfield entertained a few of her friends at her home on “Sherrod Heights” Wednesday aft ernoon celebrating her birthday. After games and other entertaining features, the guests were invited into the dining room where re freshments, of ice cream, cake, candy and nuts, were served. The table was centered with a lovely white birthday cake with red can dles burning on it. There were about 45 pres ent. The chief speaker for the eve ning was M. L. Boland from Scot land Neck. The Home Economics classes of Weldon, under Miss Hel en Moseley, served supper to the club. New Management Of Weldon Store R. K. Plyes, the new manager of Rose 5 and 10c store, arrived Wed nesday to take over J. A. Horn aday’s place, who has been trans ferred to Enfield.
