(SEE PAGE 8) -,-gp CANDIDATE JOHN C. SMITH who is a candidate for Mayor of Roanoke Rapids. He is running a gainst Mayor Kelly Jenkins. Reg istration books for new voters close this Fridy at 5 p.m. Election is Tuesday, May 4th. Zulieka, eminent Astrologist and Psycho-Mentalist, who was guest of the Roanoke Rapids Lions Club tonight She is appearing at The Imperial Theatre Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week. Driver is To Be Heard By Mayor Percy Crawley, driver of the truck which ran over Noland Goodman, 7 year old boy here Saturday, in flicting injuries from which the boy died Sunday, will face man slaughter charges at a hearing be fore Mayor Jenkins this Friday afternoon. Crawley is under $1,000 bond for Ids appearance. Allsbrook & Ben ton will represent him at the hear ing. m. Holloman will appear for the insurance company interested. The parents of the dead child had nothhig to do with the charge and knew nothing of the action un til so informed by Chief Dobbins. The reason is to follow the usual procedure in such cases. Coroner Cooper did not hold a formal inquest after being inform ed by the police of the action tak en. (SEE PAGE 9) SCENES FROM HALIFAX HORROR OF LAST WEEK The top scene shows the crossing where the train struck the car. The arrows show the path of the automobile. This crossing is near the Hali fax depot. The scene at the bottom shows the smashed car at the point where it was taken from the cow catcher. Arrow points to the death crossing, 1500 feet back.
