J. M. WATERS Professor of Biblical Literature at Atlantic Christian College, Wil son, who will deliver the Baccalau reate Sermon to the graduates next Sunday morning at the High School auditorium. Sister Local Man Dies in Wilmington Mrs. Maggie Pearson of Wilming ton, N. C. died there this Wed nesday afternoon. Funeral services are this Friday at Wilmington. Mrs. Pearson was the sister of George Herring of near here. In the center is Dot Bennett’s Band which furnished music for a delightful SfHd (PHOTO BY BRASINGTON) I ---* - CAR HITS WAGON ON HIGHWAY More details were reported to night on the death of Carl Wright, 7, who died in the Roanoke Rapids Hospital Tuesday morning from in juries when hit by a car Sunday at White Plains, Va. The ear was driven by Miss Hel en Harris, a teacher at Ebony, Va. She was accompanied by her moth er. Carl was in a wagon, guiding with the tongue; Ida Culp, a small girl, was in the wagon behind him. Her brother, John Culp, was push ing the wagon down the highway. There are two versions of what happened: one, that the boy turned the wagon around into the path of the car, the other that the children were crossing the road and the car was going too fast. The car ran over the wagon, uarl was thrown under the wheels of the car and the other two children were thrown to one side and re ceived only bruises. The fatally injured boy was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Prince Wright of White Plains and was one of twins. The remain ing twin and another brother, with the parents survive. The accident happened at 5 p.m. Sunday. The boy was rushed to the Roanoke Rapids Hospital. Two hours later, his parents returned to their home. They had been to Danville, Va., to attend the funeral of Mrs. Wright’s father. Upon be ing informed of this tragedy they came at once to Roanoke Rapids. Funeral services were held at the Tabernacle Methodist Church near Wf te Plains Wednesday afternoon wit,'. . —‘ent in the family cem etery. * Child Dies At Duke; Is Buried Today Marvin Book, four year old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Book, died at Duke Hospital Tuesday. The little boy was taken there Monday to have his tonsils and adenoids removed. Funeral services were held at i this afternoon at the residence in Northampton County with inter ment in the family cemetery. The father is an employee of Halifax Paper Company. Kiwanis Hosts To Show Cast The cast of the Kiwanis Minstrel was entertained at the Chocoyotte Country Club tonight by the Ki wanis Club, in recognition of the part played by them in the last successful minstrel. More than 150 members of the show and of the club were in at tendance jtonight when President Ned Manning and his house com mittee served barbecue, brunswick stew, cold drinks and all the trim mings. Dot Bennett and his band enter tained with music on the 18th green, while speeches were not al lowed on the program, the time being spent in the more worthwhile way of eating. The club tries to give one of these / r\ AND PAY FOR BUS RUNNING After another meeting this Mon day in Raleigh, the school bus si tuation was temporarily relieved when it was agreed by the State School Commission that the City School Board would not be compell ed to pay for the operation of the trucks nor would the board be held responsible for accidents to the busses or occupants. This was arrived at by an agree ment on the part of the County Board of Education to collect tui tion from out-of-town 9th month ers, with the County Board pro tecting the City Board on expenses and bus responsibility. The actual contract, however, had not been signed today by the City School Board, which was waiting for evidence of the proper action on the part of the County Board of Education before signing. It was understood here today that a question about whom would be charged tuition had been raised. Meanwhile, with a week to go be fore school is out, the busses will continue to run and, if all contracts and agreements are carried out, the County Board of Education will pay for the operation of the busses and insurance out of the tuition fees. feeds each year to the members of the show, prior to school vaca tion, as many of the teachers took part in the show. All members of this year’s Minstrel-Revue are looking forward to next Spring when the 9th annual show will be presented. Graduation Exercises Next Week The class of 1937 with sixty-seven members will graduate from Roa noke Rapids High School next week with commencement exer cises starting on this Sunday. The Baccalaureate Sermon will be preached by Dr. J. M. Waters, Professor of Biblical Literature at Atlantic Christian College. This service will take place at the High School auditorium at 11 a.m. Sun day, May 30th. Class Day exercises will be held Tuesday night at the High School auditorium at 8 o’clock. Wednesday night at 8 o’clock will see the Grammar Grades gradua tion exercises in the High School auditorium. High School Graduation is set for Thursday night, June 3rd, at 8 o’ clock JIMMIE SHELL local hoy who is making good at Carolina, according to write-up of his career in The Daily Tar Heel, i THAD EURE Secretary of State, who was the banquet speaker at Raleigh Satur day night when the Wake County Young Democrats gave a dinner to the State Executive committee of the Young Democrats.
