(Photo by Brasington) AMOUNT NOT YET KNOWN Tax payers in the Roanoke Rap ids Sanitary District are going- to get some tax relief from the high 46 cent rate placed on by the Board last year, but just how much relief could not be learned tonight. The minutes of the last meeting are not signed by all the members and have not been released to the public so it is impossible to say of ficially what has happened. Taxpayers have been kicking a bout the high tax rate of last year, especially since the news seeped out that the Board’s auditor had recommended a tax rate cut of at least ten cents, saying the financial i District warranted v. Also called to the attention of the Board was the legal fact that the Ikw covering taxing in Sani tary District of the State plainly states that an ad valorem tax on property can only be levied for bonded indebtedness. If that law were followed to the letter, the Sanitary District taxpayers could expect much relief, down to about the original 26 cents, which is said to be enough to retire the bonds and pay interest charges. The recent audit, which has not been published yet, is said to have shown the District in good finan cial shape after the year’s business. Good enough for the auditor to recommend that the tax rate be lowered. BURIED HERE J. W.
