IOCAI MRVS 45 Attend Woman Club Nov. Meet The November meeting of the Woman’s Club was held Monday afternoon with Mrs. R. P. Beck with, president of the club presid ing. Reports were given by the leaders of the Welfare, Literature, and Fine Arts and Garden De partments of the activities of their departments during this year, These reports were most interest ing and showed that lots was be ing accomplished by the capable leaders and their co-workers. The program for the afternoon was under the direction of the Fine Arts department, with Mrs. J. N. Bynum in charge; she gave a most interesting lecture assisted by Mrs. R. P. Beckwith, who pre sented slides to illustrate the out standing points of Mrs. Bynum’s lecture. Very interesting pictures of Whistler and Sargent were shown. A most delightful paper was given by Mrs. Emmett Matt hews on “Art in Everyday Life." About , forty-five were present and light refreshments were ser ved. j Miss Carlon Hostess Monday evening Miss Lucille Carlon delightfully entertained the members of the Monday Night Birdge Club and several addition al guests. Rosemary Lodge where the party was held was lovely with fall flowers used as decora tions, the six tables for players were, placed in the living room and sun parlor, and at ten fifteen the scores were added and Mrs.'How ard Fruden was awarded the high club prize and Mrs. Mathew Broun the high guest prize. Tellegar. __ Joint Hostesses On Thursday of last week Miss Evelyn Johnson and Miss Ruth Glover, jointly entertained their respective bridge clubs at the home of Mrs. C. T. Johnson, and they also honored Mrs. H. E. Cameron, a bride of the summer. Hallowe'en decorations were ef fectively used, autmn flowers al so carrying out the hallowe'en col ors. At ten thirty the scores were added and Miss Omara Daniel was presented the high score prize, Miss Katherine Reid, sec ond high, Miss Hilda Hines the floating prize and Mrs. H. E. Miss Willie Harris and Miss Mar+ha Speight spent the weekend in Emporia Virginia with friends. Miss Martha Craddock attended the funeral of a friend in Peters burg, Va. Wednesday. GLEE CLUBS OPERETTA NOV. 17TH The music of Stephen Collins Fos ter will be the background for an operetta, “An Old Kentucky Gar den,” to be given by the Glee Clubs of Roanoke Rapids High School on November 17th at 8:15 o’clock in the High School auditorium. The songs of this beloved com poser will be reviewed in their orig inal settings: The Old Southern Plantation and the Colored Planta tion Singers. Such loved songs as ..eanie With the Light Brown Hair”, “Beautiful Dreamer”, “Come Where My Love Lies Dreaming”, “Old Kentucky Home”, "Camptown Races”, “Oh! Susanna”, and “Nel lie Was A Lady”, will be sung. Birthday Party Billie Crane Griffin, son of Mr. and Mrs. O. Griffin, entertained with a party in honor of his fourth birthday Saturday after noon at his home on Jackson street. After many games were enjoyed refreshments were served and hal lowe'en favors were presented tc each guest. Birthday Party Betty Jean Pullen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pullen, cele brated her fourth birthday Friday October 29th with a party at her home on Hamilton street. The guests arrived at three o’clock and played games until five then they were invited to the dinning room where refreshments were served by Mrs. Pullen, assisted by Mrs. Sam Bunn and Mrs. B. E. Lancaster. The dining room table was centered with a beautiful cake and each guest was presented with Hallowe’en favor.
