B. Fisher re turns to the pastorate of the First Methodist Church o f Roanoke Rapids for another year and the Reverend C. T. Rogers was ap pointed pastor of the Rosemary Methodist Church at the annual Methodist Conference held in Ra leigh the past week. Mr. Fisher returns to follow up a most successful year when the church debt was paid off and the mortgage burned amid great cele bration. Mr. Rogers comes to fill the place of the Rev. J. J. Boone who goes to the Branson Memorial Church at Durham. Pastors for the next year in Methodist churches of this section in the Rocky Mount District will be L. V. Harris at Conway, L. T. Watts of Seaboard gees to Carthage. Enfield Philathea Class Officers The Baptist Philathea Class en joyed a meeting in the home of Mrs. N. M. McCutchin on Monday evening with a good attendance. The nominating committee pre sented the following names for of ficers of the class for next year, all of whom were unanimously e lected: President, Mrs. Ira D. Wood; 1st Vice Pres., Mrs. L. L. Allen; 2nd Vice Pres., Mrs. U. H. Hardison; Secretary, Mrs. J. E. Broach; As sistant Sec., Mrs. C. O. Strickland; Treasurer, Mrs. B. R. Kimball; As sistant Treasurer, Mrs. C. J. Meets Elects Officers The monthly meeting of the Wo man’s Missionary Society was held at the Baptist Church on Monday afternoon with twenty-six mem bers present. The Vice-President, Mrs. T. T. Hales, presided. The Armenians were the topic for the afternoon’s program with the Ann Judson Circle in charge. Mrs. D. Mac Johnson told of “The Three Fore-Runners.” Mrs. Kes ler Askew discussed “The Syrians and Americans Over America.” Officers for next year were e lected as follows: President, Mrs. D. Mac Johnson; Vice-President, Mrs. M. E. Herman; Secretary, Mrs. B. R. Kimball; Assistant Sec retary. Mrs. Kesler Askew; Treas urer, Mrs. J. N. Cutchin; Assistant Treasurer, Miss Katie W. Denounc ed.'1 Christian Science Thanksgiving Service -- customary on Thanksgiving Day for Christian Science Churches and Societies throughout the United States to hold a service appropriate to the occasion, at which time a Lesson-Sermon es pecially prepared at the headquar ters of the Church in Eoston is read. In accordance with this custom, the Christian Science Society of Roanoke Rapids held its service on Thursday. The service includ ed the reading of the Thanksgiving Proclamation written by the Pres ident of the United States; the singing by the congregation of sev eral well chosen hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal, and a solo entitled “A Grateful Heart." The Golden Text of the Lesson Sermon on “Thanksgiving” was as follows: “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusteth in him, and I am helped: there fore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.” (Psalms 28:7) One of the scriptural passages contained in the Lesson-Sermon was from the sixty-third chapter of Isaiah: “I will mention the lov ing kindnesses of the Lord, and the praises of the Lord, according to all that the Lord hath bestowed on us, and the great goodness to ward the house of Israel, which he hath bestowed on them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his loving kind nesses. The reading from the Christian Science textbook, "Sci ence & Health with Key to the Scriptures” by Mary Baker Eddy, included the following citation: “Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need. It is not well to imagine that Jesus demonstrated the divine power to heal only for a select number or for a limited period of Christian Church HERMIT TRAYLOR, Pastor Cake Social Saturday Night The Pastor’s Sunday School Class is giving a cake social Saturday night at 7 p.m., to which the gen eral public is invited. Joe Harrison the baotistry is now being repaired. This work will take about two weeks, which when completed will be a grand job indeed. Also a new and big ger heater will be installed for heating the water. And so the Church marches on through thick and thin conquering and to con quer. It is a great institution. Al so we thank every man who gave last Sunday on the new heater for the baptistry. Rosemary WMS Elects Officers W. M. S. of Rosemary Baptist Church held the monthly meeting at the church Wednesday night. In the absence of the president, Mrs. J. L. Willis, who was attend ing the Convention in Wilmington, Mrs. T. M. Smith's Church Entertains Boones Young Peoples League of Smith’s Church entertained Rev. and Mrs. J. J. Boone with a surprise shower of gifts Tuesday night in the home of Mrs. Sam Powell. The stewards of Smith Church honored Rev. and Mrs. Boone with a dinner Thursday night at the home of Mrs. Dora Powell. Rev. and Mrs. Boone will leave within the next few days to make their home in Durham. Young People’s Meet Mrs. Ruth Vick Everette of Sea board spoke at the meeting of the Young People’s Division of the Methodist Church in Weldon Sun day evening at 6:45 o’clock. Mrs. Everette used as her subject, "Gates”. Her subject was very well brought out. She spoke of many Gates in our own country and for eign countries where she has trav eled extensively. There was a large attendance present who greatly enjoyed Mrs. Everett’s talk.
