Our old faithful 9th Street star is all ready to shine again, they say. • • Home for the Thanksgiving holidays were Ir vin Byrd and Irvin Dickens of Wake Forest, Henry Green, Eugene Shell, Jack Vincent and Carlton Cannon, Buddy Beckwith, Henry Akers, Joe Ha tem and Jimmy McGee of Carolina, Wilson Mullen, Davidson College, Ollie Acree and Wilson Byrd, Guilford College, and Harry Cannon, Clemson Col lege._ 4 DIE IN GARYSB'RG ACCIDENT Three Negroes Were instantly killed and another died Sunday as the result of an automobile acci dent which occurred late Saturday night when the car in which they were riding crashed into a trans fer truck just after the truck had collided with another vehicle. Three other Negroes were injured in. the mishap which occurred near here on the Garysburg Road. A coach driven by Julian L. Har ris, of Gumberry, collided with the big truck, which was driven by J. R. Boyd, of High Point. This car was thrown clear. The car con taining the seven Negroes driven by Jackson Lane, 30„ of Baltimore, skidded into the rear of the truck. Lee Branch, of Baltimore, Johnny Montgomery and Bamma Smith, of Gumberry, were instantly killed, and James Montgomery, died Mon day. Three of the Negroes were rush ed to Roanoke Rapids Hospital where James Montgomery died and another was treated by a Weldon physician. One of the Baltimore Negroes had come down to attend the funeral of his mother here Sunday. Mrs. Emma Brown Mother Of Local Men Is Buried Mrs. Emma Brown, 78, died Sat urday near Aulander. She was the mother of A. J. and L. F. Brown of Roanoke Rapids. Funeral ser vices were held Sunday between Jackson and Rich Square with in terment in the family cemetery. The Rev. Gordon Price officiated. Ex-Littleton Resident Dies At Whittakers Mrs. Virginia Alice Carter, 90 years old, wife of the late A. E. Carter of Littleton, died Tuesday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. D. Pittman, in Whittakers. Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Corinth Church by the Rev. E. L. Nelson with in terment in the church cemetery. Mrs. Carter is survived by one daughter, a brother, Mr. Isles of Richmond, Va., and two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Johnson and Mrs. Laura Duke of Littleton. Five sons preceded her but surviving are 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grand children. Mrs. Walter Crowder and chil dren of Blackstone, Va. spent the Thanksgiving holidays wiht Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Collier. V. ‘ Miss Lois Wallace spent the Thanksgiving holidays in Rich mond, Va. with relatives. Miss Anna Belle Daughtry of Hudson spent Thanksgiving holi days here with relatives. R. L. Pendleton of U. S. N., Nor folk, Va. spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Pendleton. THANKS . Mr. and Mrs. Beaman Floyd spent Saturday in Lawrenceville, Va. Mrs. Gilliam Hostess Mrs. Arthur Gilliam entertained the Tuesday Night Bridge Club this week. Mrs. A. O. George won high score prize, and Mrs. Sam Bunn second high. A sweet course with coffee was served at 10:30 to the following club members and guests: Mesdames Bill Alligood, W. B.
