A long-time program of expan sion of the size and facilities of the Roanoke Rapids Hospital will probably be officially adopted at the next meeting of the Hospital Board of Trustee,s after hearing Dr. W. S. Rankin, director of the Duke Endowment, who was the guest of honor at the monthly meeting and banquet here Tuesday night Dr. Rankin recpmmended that the Roanoke Rapids Hospital join the N. C. Hospital Group at once and prepare to take care of the ine. eased load which will follow vr* increasing the facilities of the hospital. This group hospitaliza tion will enable such groups as firemen, police, Post Office em ployees, small businesses and store groups to enter a weekly plan of payment for hospitalization. Dr. Rankin stated that the Roa noke Rapids Hospital must be en larged to care for such a plan and agreed that Duke Endowment would contribute liberally toward a recommended addition of 50 adult beds to the present 81 adult beds. He pointed out that there should always be a 25 per cent sur plus for emergencies. His recommendations followed the report of President J. T. Chase that patient days at the hospital were on a steady increase. Using the night of the meeting as an example, Mr. Chase reported that when the meeting started 77 of the 81 adult beds were occupied and before the meeting was over three more patients had come in. One adult bed was left. To join the group plan now grow ing in the State, it would be neces sary for the Roanoke Rapids Hos pital to have an addition to care for the increase and for the emer gency outlined by Dr. Rankin. Def inite action is expected at the A pril meeting of the Board. Besides Dr. Rankin, the follow ing members of the Hospital Board were present Tuesday night: Pres ident J. T. Chase, Secretary F. G.
