(Herald NewsKuts by Crumpler) dr. McGeachey very ILL AT RESIDENCE IN WELDON; VERY SUDDEN Dr. R. S. McGeachey, County Health Officer of Halifax County, lies critically ill at his home in Weldon tonight. His condition is declared most serious by a half dozen physicians who have at tended him today. He has been unconscious all day, since being found in that state by Mrs. McGeachey at 8 o’clock this morning, making it difficult for doctors to diagnose the case. It is the general opinion that he is suffering from a heart attack. At various times during to day it has been necessary to place him under an oxygen tent. Doctors Suiter and Lassiter of Weldon were called this morning and shortly after they called for an oxygen tent which was taken to Weldon from the Roanoke Rapids Hospital by Dr. Bahnson Weathers. During the afternoon, Doctors R. P. Beckwith, chief of staff of the Roanoke Rapids Hospital, Dr. Higginbotham and Dr. John W. Mar tin were in attendance. Dr. Martin arrived in the city last night from a trip to Washington. Friends of Dr. McGeachey say he has been very worried recently over his impending dis charge as County Health Officer. He is 66 years old. His son from Greensboro arrived in Weldon this afternoon. COUNTY DOCTORS ENDORSE COUNTY HEALTH OFFICER At the regular meeting Friday, Sept. 9th, 1938, of the Halifax County Medical Society, it was call ed to the attention of the Society that the County Board of Commissioners have given Dr. R. S. Mc Geachey notice that his services with the County as head of the County Health Department, are to terminate in the near future. As a result of thi« information the County Medical Society went on record as highly endorsing Dr. McGeachey as an efficient medical officer whose accomplishments have been outstanding, and his efforts untiring. The sentiment of the Society was deeply regretful that the Board of Commissioners had taken this action affecting a man of irreproachable character and the highest professional standards. A request was made by the Society that the above endorse-* ment with reference to Dr. McGeachey be given publicity in th County. COMMISSIONERS SHOULD RECONSIDER (See Editorial, Section C, Page 2)
