Little Business Head Appoints State Leaders Raleigh, N. C„ Sept. 14.—Ap pointment of Baxter Durham and I. M. Bailey, both of Raleigh, as Director of Organization and Law Committee Chairman, respectively, of the North Carolina Division of the American Federation of Little Business, was announced here to day by Alfred Williams, State Di vision Chairman. Durham has established head quarters here and will direct the Federation’s membership campaign in this state. Widely known throughout North Carolina, he was first elected State Auditor in 1920 and was re-elected for three subse quent terms. He has also served four terms as President of the Na tional Association of State Audi tors, Comptrollers and Treasurers. As Chairman of the State Divi sion’s Law Committee, Bailey will recommend for appointment attor neys from each of the counties of the state. A native of Johnston County, Baily practiced law in Jacksonville before coming to Ra leigh in 1931. He is President of the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, former president of the Raleigh Community Chest and was at one time general counsel to the State Corporation Commission and pres ident of the North Carolina State car. The appointments round out the structural organization of the North Carolina Division, which is similar to those set up in other states. It includes an Advisory Committee composed of chairmen from each of the 11 Congressional districts. Matt R. Bernhardt, of Lenoir, is Vice Chairman of the Federation and a member of its National Governing Committee, and Tyre Taylor, formerly of North Carolina, is the Federation’s gen eral counsel. In announcing the appointments, Chairman Williams said: "The American Federation of Lit tle Business, with national head quarters in Washington, D. C., of fers the independent small business man the opportunity he has long needed—of becoming affiliated with a national organization designed solely for the purpose of protecting and advancing his economic wel fare. “This Federation, which has re cived the endorsement of Governor Hoey and other state leaders, is an independent, non-profit and non partisan organization. In addition to the services it offers its mem bership, it promises to be an in strument by means of which the in dependent man of business can make his voice effectively heard in matters that directly affect his bus iness and his economic security.” TOWN I ft TALK I Miss Lila Rose Gray of Williams ton is visiting Mrs. Lloyd Bryant this week. Slade of Rich Square visit ed Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Edwards Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Edwards have returned to their home in New castle, Del., after spending a week iwth Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Edwards. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Teele and daughter, Mabel .spent Sunday in Durham and Hillsboro with rela tives. Mr. and Mrs. Cleophus Bray, Mrs. Richard Bray spent Tuesday in Durham. Mr. and Mrs. Will Erwin and daughter, Annie, spent Sunday in Hillsboro. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Allsbrook spent Tuesday in Richmond, Va. Garland Hollidai left Monday to enter State College. M. C.
