(Herald NewsKut by Crumpler) Series Of Parties A series of three parties were given one on Thursday evening, one Friday evening and one Sat urday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Jimmie Curran when Mrs. Curran and Mrs. Beaman Helms jointly entertained with bridge. Bowls of lovely fall flowers were effectively placed throughout the living room, dining room and den where the tables were arranged for the players. A color scheme of green and white predominated in the refreshing ice course which was served. Attractive tallies were given the guests as they arrived to direct them to their tables and partners. The prize winners for Thursday evening were Mrs. Colan Womble high and Mrs. Bill Carter low. Mrs. S. E. Purdue was guest of honor at this party and was re membered with a gift. Misses Su la Williams, Ruby Williams and Mrs. James Stevens were refresh ment guests. The bridge players in addition to the honored guest were: Mesdames Bill Carter, Bill Harris, Colan Womble, Graham Lynch, William Thorne, D. E. Emporia Dance At Armory On October 12th The Howitzer Company, 116th Infantry, of the Virginia National Guard will sponsor a Dance at the Armory in Emporia on Wednes day evening, October 12th, from 10 until 2 o’clock, according to an nouncement made this week. Music for the dance will be fur nished by Hal Thurston and his Orchestra, featuring "Mac” Mac Donald, vocalist. The Emporia National Guard unit has sponsored several dances recently, and reports are to the effect that they are well attended. At Woman’s Club A lovely bridge party was given on Tuesday afternoon at the Wo man’s Club with Mrs. W. C. Wil liams and Mrs. O. Griffin as joint hostesses. The club house was lovely with its decorations of fall flowers in attractive arrangement. Eighteen tables of players enjoyed five progressions of contract; the scores were collected at five o’ clock and first and second high scorers were presented lovely prizes, Mrs. Virgil McDowell win ning the high prize and Mrs. T. L. Martin the second high. Mrs. John Marcus Smith won the floating prize. An attractive ice course was served at refreshment time.
