Red Cross Goes Over __ I u Roanoke Rapids Chapter Passes Quota Set With Final Report Friday Night The Roanoke Rapids Chapter of the American Red Cross Went over the top and passed its goal, ac cording to returns made tonight to Roll Call Chairman Frank C. Wil liams, with tomorrow night set for final reports. A total of $1, 280.89 had been reported tonight. Roanoke Mills Co. No. 1, with A. O. Pendleton as major in charge of the Roll Call there, led other units with a report of $237.15; Pat terson Mills Co., Clyde Liske Ma jor, reported $185.00; Major How ard Pruden for Rosemary Manu facturing Co. reported $181.27; Ma jor Wm. T. Hodges for Roanoke Mills No. 2 reported $146.00; Major Fred Wilmer for Halifax Paper Co. reported $119.16; Major Frank Sherry $65 from the Virginia Elec tric & Power Co.; Major Ollie Horton $42 from Manchester Board & Paper Co. Major C. W. Davis reported $78 from the school teachers; Mrs. Fred Wilmer $45.21 from the Post Office Red Cross booth; Mrs. W. L. Medlin $37; Mrs. Martha Gur ley $37; Miss Ruby Wood $24 from the Fire Dept, and Municipal Building; Mrs. Dr. Stephenson $23.10; Miss Janie Lassiter $20.50 from the Hospital; Mrs. F. G. Jar man $19.50; Mrs. J. P. Grizzard $10.00; Mrs. C. L. Wilson $8.00; Rosemary Drug Co. booth $3.00. Some of the above had not made complete reports tonight nor had a report been heard from Mrs. R. H. Ward, chairman of the Little ton branch of the Roanoke Rapids Chapter. It is now thought that complete returns will show the Roll Call reaching nearly $1,400 which is better than last year. Chapter Chairman Gordon L. Price tonight said he wished to take this means of thanking the workers who raised the funds in the Roll Call and all those who joined and contributed, thus mak ing the 1938 one of the best Roll Calls in the history of the Chap ter. TO PAINT PICTURES HI SCHOOL STAGE Famous Artist And Daughter To Give Program At Local High School Auditorium For more than a week now Prof. Christian Nielson and his daughter have been engaged in redecorating the stage sets at the high school. Prof. Nielson is a nationally known mural painter and scenic artist. His career as an artist has attract ed attention throughout this coun try and Europe. He is a native of Denmark. On Thursday and Friday eve nings, December first and second, Mr. Nielson, assisted by his daugh ter, Beverly Nielsen, will give a program of entertainment in the high school auditorium. The mu sic department will assist in this program. The program will consist of dra matic sketches and interpretive dances by Miss Beverly Nielsen. Miss Nielsen is a graduate stu dent of the Russian ballet dancer Sschernikoff of Washington, D. C. All of her appearances will be in costume. Mr. Nielsen will do twb complete paintings. The theme of these paintings will be taken from the familiar old songs, “Little Old Church in the Valley” ahd “The 2nd of a Perfect Day.” Both paintings will be accompanied by the music of these songs and a realistic lighting effect that will lend beauty and realism to the act.
