NEXT WEEK AT ROANOKE RAPIDS THEATRES Dixie Dunbar And Ernest Truex In FRESHMAN YEAR -SUNDAY ONLY ***»•*• Bill Allsbrook On Stage Wednesday For all around entertainment and family night at the movies, “Out West with the Hardys,” which will open Sunday at the New Peoples for a three day run, should not be missed. It brings new laurels to the fa vorites millions of motion picture fans have come to know and to love, Lewis Stone as the Judge, Mickey Rooney as Andy, Cecilia Parker as Marian, Fay Holden as Mrs. Hardy, Sara Haden as Aunt Milly, Ann Rutherford as Andy's "steady” girl friend, Polly, and Don Castle as Dennis Hunt, Marian’s Carvel boy friend. Given an adventurous background of modern ranch life, the Hardys go-to-town when they are invited to the ranch of Dora and Bill Northcote. Dora was a former sweetheart of the Judge, who has read that he is an expert on water rights and asks him to aid her in a battle over a river that is essen tial to her ranch. Andy immedi ately clashes with Jake, who proves that she is a better “man” than Andy by out-riding him, out shooting and out-roping him. Ma rian falls in love with the hand some ranch foreman, Hay Holt. The Judge succeeds in ironing out these difficulties but fails to settle the water rights tangle until Mrs. Har dy comes to his rescue. It all ends gayly and happily. * * * * * * The gay tale of a madcap heiress who chucks her fortune and her yacht to work in a bargain base ment and eat hamburgers with a roving reporter will be brought to the screen of the Peoples Theatre Wednesday-Thursday when Virgin ia Bruce and Fredric March will be shown in “There Goes My Heart.” The story opens with Joan But terfield (Virginia Bruce), the “rich est girl in the world,” decamping with her grandfather’s yacht and cutting loose to New York, free dom and adventure bound. Penniless and incognito, she strikes up an acquaintance with Patsy Kelly, who demonstrates e lectric vibrators in the basement of Joan’s own Grandfather Butter DIAL R-394 PROGRAM FOR WEEK NOVEMBER 27, 1938 ■ a Admission ■ pi 10c “a 15c SUN. Patsy also gets Joan a job selling fireless cookers in the basement of Butter field’s. Meanwhile, a reporter named Bill Spencer (Fredrie March) has been trying to get an interview with Joan. He had caught a glimpse of her leaving her yacht, from which he, in turn, had been unceremoni ously tossed into the Pacific. Furious over this sort of treat ment, he decides to write a story contrasting Joan’s life of ease with the hard lives of the girls who work in her grandfather’s store. Roving the bargain basement for material, he is amazed to recog nize Joan behind a counter. Pre tending to believe her just another salesgirl, he takes her out to din ner, but his hatred turns to love and the pair are soon having a grand time, riding the subways, eating hot corn and sweet potatoes at sidewalk stands and winning contests at ice-skating rinks. Bill tears up the story about Joan. The comedy casts Bob in the role of a young husband who is struggling against several prob lems. He has a job which doesn’t pay too well as an electric appli ance salesman. In his spare time he is trying to write that Great American novel which he feels he has in his system, even though friends think it is their preroga tive to clutter up his home at all hours. Then his wife—played by lovely Shirley Ross—decides that Bob should give up his job and let her go back to work as a model, the purpose being more time for Bob to write. Bob and Shirley make the most of these humorous and romantic developments, laughing and wise cracking their way through situa tion after situation loaded with spontaneous wit. Both of them prove that the notices which they have received in the past were more than warranted. And Butter worth, Hedda Hopper, Otto Kruger and Roscoe Karns round out a cast which is beautifully tailored to the picture. TOWN ITALKf Mr. and Mrs. W. J.
