Wilson, president of the Roanoke Rapids Merchants Association, to ask all merchants and clerks to keep their cars out of the parking areas of the business sections on those two days. The situation was even acute yesterday and today and, with Fri day and Saturday the last two shopping days before Christmas, Mr. Wilson wanted to be able to assure those from out of town that every effort would be made to furnish them parking space near the business sections. It is felt that if merchants and clerks will park their cars on side and back streets, at least Friday and Saturday, the situation will be considerably relieved. Folks who live in the business sections are also asked to move their cars from those sections and not use that area for garage space for an un limited period of time. With Jackson Street now closed, on account of paving, the situation is even more serious this year, as some of that space was utilized in past seasons of a business rush. A part of Hamilton Street has been opened and is available for park ing by merchants, clerks and those who live in the business sections. The Merchants Association, thru President Wilson, asks for all pos sible co-operation this weekend. One Week Left To Get Auto Tags Next week will be the last week to get city auto license tags before city police obey orders to issue summons to all owners of city cars driven on the streets after Janu ary 1 minus said tags. “Feed everybody out of the same ipoon”, was said to be orders giv 3n the police in regard to issuing summons to appear before the Mayor’s Court and show cause why city license tags have not been purchased and are not displayed on the front of said vehicle. There is another week, this next, before the ordinance goes into ef fect. The same week, also, is the last one can drive the car or truck with a 1938 State license tag. There is no indication the time limit will be extended by the State and the Patrolmen will probably be busy checking the highways and city streets after Jan. 1. Merry Christmas To All Our Subscribers
