C._ THURSDAY, JAN. 12, 1939 NUMBER 27 FIVE NEW HOMES ARE GOING UP At least five new dwellings in Roanoke Rapids are now under construction, according to the rec ords of building inspector Henry Fitts. _A. F. Garner is building a resi dence on Jefferson Street between 12th and 13th._ It is a frame house, five rooms and bath. E. W. Wright is the contractor. T. B. Glover is the owner of a new house being built at 10th and Washington Streets, frame, four rooms and bath. Nat Hoekaday is building a resi dence on Hamilton St. between 13th and 14th Streets, frame, five rooms and bath. J. O. Beard is the con tractor. Wilton Dickens is the owner of a new house being constructed at 901 Jackson -St., frame,- five rooms and bath. L. S. Garner is the contrac tor. Carl Thompson is building a new residence on Hamilton St. between 7th and 8th Streets, next to the Jesse Lee home. Work started this week. J. C. Leath has a permit to build a new garage building at his Ham ilton St. residence. Mullen on or before Jan uary 16, 1939 a written statement that he will ac cept office if elected. OFFICIAL BALLOT FOR ELECTION OF 8 BOARD MEMBERS The annual meeting of the members of the Roanoke Rapids Community Chest will be held in the Municipal Building on Wednesday, January 25, 1939 at 7:30 p.m. This meeting will be held to receive the returns from the elections of its Board of Trustees, to receive reports, and to transact any other business presented. Upon adjournment of this meeting the organization meeting of the Board of Trustees will be held. President T. W. Mullen has requested that sach of the Institutional Members of the Commu nity Chest certify to him, by letter, the trustees to represent their respective agencies on or before January 16, 1939. Below is the official ballot for use by the con tributing members,. and prepared by the Commit tee of Tellers, in order to vote for the trustees to be elected from among those who made contribu tions to the Chest. Chairman E. A. Telliga of the Tellers Committee asked that all ballots be mailed to the Roanoke Rapids Community Chest, Post Office Box 31. In addi tion, the Roanoke Rapids legislator was made a member of the follow ing Senate committees: finance; manufacturing, .labor .and .com merce; .public .welfare; conserva tion and development; commercial fisheries; counties, cities and towns; trustees of the University; institutions for the blind; Caswell Training School; claims; rules; water commerce; railroads; sal aries and fees; Senate expendi tures. j.n tne Jtiouse or Kepresentatives, William D. Koloman of Weldon was appointed to the following committees: appropriations; judi ciary No. 1; elections and election laws; agriculture; unemployment compensation; counties, cities and towns; public utilities; penal insti tutions; health; public buildings and grounds. Everett of Palymyra, the other Representatives from Hali fax County, was appointed to the following committees: finance; ag riculture, education; counties, cities and towns; insurance; manufactur ing and labor; public utilities; pe nal institutions; public health. Infant Son Is Buried Sunday Howard Pearce, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Pearce of Lit tleton RFD 2, passed away Satur day. Funeral services and inter j ment were Sunday at Corinth. Church.
