When Stewart marries Joan Crawford and adds her to the double act, trouble en sues. The loss of a job in a skat ing rink causes the girl to seek employment on her own and be cause of her unusual voice she lands a film contract and signs it before she notices the “no mar riage” clause buried in the legal terms. The three finally drift a part. Stewart to seek backing for his dream of staging an Ice Fol lies, Ayres to one night stands in Skating rinks, and Miss Crawford to film stardom. The way in which they are final ly reunited will prove to be very interesting. A delirious romance that’s as gay as New Year’s Eve and as modern as tomorrow will be served at Peoples Theatre Wednesday-Thurs day, starring Loretta Young and Warner Baxter as the chief roman ticists in “Wife, Husband and Friend.” The picture’s opening finds Lo retta and Warner blissfully happy in their marriage. Loretta has loads of money, a grand husband and a lovely home. But, just like a woman, she wants one thing more. She wants to sing! And, to make matters worse, she does. Encouraged by Cesar Romero, her music teacher, and a group of well-meaning friends, Loretta makes her debut on the concert stage in spite of Warner’s pro tests. The debut is successful, thanks to her husband’s seat-sell ing efforts, and she plans a cross country tour. As if this wouldn’t cause dissen sion enough. Binnie Barnes steps into the picture in the role of a beautiful and famous opera sing er and discovers that Warner Bax ter, among other things, has a mag hificent baritone voice. So he goes on tour! Now, with Loretta going one way and Warner going the other, you’d never think they’d get together. An exciting story of women of the sky, their split-second escapes and the heart-throbs behind their spectacular lives will be revealed in "Tail Spin,” with Alice Faye, Con stance Bennett, and Nancy Kelly in the starring roles Friday-Satur day at Peoples Theatre. With Alice Faye as Trixie, Con stance Bennett as Gerry and Nancy Kedy as Lois, “Tail Spin” is the exciting tale of these three who brush wings with death in the gamble they can lose only once. Trixie flies for the money that’s in it, Gerry because she finds the sky’s the place to hide from love, and Lois because it brings her closer to the man she loves. The film opens with a night club scene in which Trixie appears as an entertainer. After borrowing two hundr“fi<- dollars from the owner of the club on the pretext that she needs it for her “mother and brother,” she is next found on the starting line waiting for the flag that will send ten racing planes into the air for the Wo men’s Transcontinental Speed Race to Cleveland. The complications that take place before Trixie f^yally makes a record for herself w^t be interest ing to all patrons.
