LITTLETON NEWS Miss Ertie Boyd Warren, a mem ber of ihe Jackson High School faculty, has returned to spend the summer with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. W. Warren. Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Person left Saturday morning for Milwaukee. Mr. and Mrs. Macon Moore, Jr., and little daughter, Nancy, spent the week-end in Norlina Miss Mary J. Spruill is spending a few days in Enfield with Miss Virginia Branch. Mr. and Mrs. Jos. P. Pippen left Tuesday for Raleigh. Mr. Pippen is a delegate to the men’s conven tion of the Episcopal Church. While there' they will be guests of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Rosenthal. Dr. and Mrs. L. H. Justis were guests of Mrs. J. W. Justis in Mid lothian Sunday. C. N. Riggan of Norlina is spend ing this week with his grandpar ents, Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Hardy. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Morris mo tored to Richmond Sunday. Miss Hazel Inscoe was a guest of Miss Polly Perry in Halifax Sat urday. Jesse Wood has returned to Bal timore after spending a week in his home here. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Crawley of Wilson were guests of Mr. and Mrs. N. W. Warren Sunday. Mrs. J. M. Alexander and miss Annie D Alexander spent the week end in Scotland Neck. Mrs. Ike Rochelle of Roanoke Rapids is a guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Harvey. Miss Mary Emma Smith spent the week-end in her home here. Mrs. C. B. Austin was a week end visitor in the home of Mrs. H. C. Smith. Mrs. Eugene Gay of Jackson re cently visited Miss Hattie Spruill. Lieut, and Mrs. W. J. Crocker of the C.C.C. and Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Crawley spent Sunday in Washing ton, D. C. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Taylor and Miss Mary Lou Taylor left Wed nesday for Vaughan where they will make their home. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Riggan and children of Warrenton were visit ors in town Sunday. Jesse Wood, Jr., of Williamston spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Wood. Mi's. K. C. Cheves of Jackson ville is the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. W. Warren. Miss Annie Tucker Moore of the Franklinton High School faculty has returned to her home here for the summer. Mrs. Claud Alston, after receiving treatment in the Roanoke Rapids Hospital, has returned home. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harris of Richmond were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Abernathy. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Price and son of Washington were guests of J. L. Price this week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Salmon and Miss Frankie Price spent Monday in Roanoke Rapids. Miss Cora Butts of South HHl, Virginia, has recently been a guest of her grandmother, Mrs. E. C. Bob bitt. Brantley Acree spent the week end in Windsor. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. House and family, of Thelma, visited relatives in town Saturday. Mrs. Fuller Robinson and Mrs. June Collier were guests of Mrs. W. N. Thornton Saturday. Miss Maryleen Cole entertained a few of her friends at a birthday party Saturday evening from eight to eleven. After several games of bridge and Chinese Checkers, cakes, nuts and cream were served to the following guests: Misses Ru by and Ruth Topping, Marie Tay lor, Gertrude Edgerton, Sally Ann House, Messrs. James Leach, Bob by Patterson, Billy Palmer, Bobby Jones, James Myrick and Jack May. The American Legion met with Miss Fannie Newsom Friday after-, noon at half after three o’clock. Plans for Memorial Day and the sale of popples were discussed. The annual Recitation-Declama tion Contest was held on the eve ning of May 3, in the High School auditorium. Those receiving awards in the contest were: Misses Velma Barnes, Julia Cook, Mary Shields Justis, Evelyn Newsom, Messrs. Billy Palmer, Edward Moseley, Bobby Jones, Robert Myrick, Billy Perkinson, Durwood Williams, and Robert Thomas Currin. Billy Palm er was awarded two letters; one in the debating contest and one for athletics. Edward Moseley was a warded the silver cup for the best all around athlete. The following were re-elected to the Littleton High School faculty for the next term: Mrs. Rosa Ham ilton, 1st grade; Miss Bonnie May Hall, 2nd grade; Miss Claire Ben thall, 3rd grade; Miss Estelle Isles, 4th grade; Miss Jean Parker, 5th grade; Miss Mabel Stroupe, 6th grade; Miss Louise White, 7th grade; Miss Annie Boyd Morecock, Mr. Steve Acai, Mr. A. W. Parker and Miss Sue Sewell, high school teachers. Mrs. E. L. Crawley was re-elected teacher of music and Mr. G. E. Crawley continued as Super intendent. Several of the teachers did not apply for re-election. Miss Constance Ballance is mak ing her home temporarily with Misses Elizabeth and Carrie Helen Moore on Mosby Avenue. Mrs. E. Leslie Crawley presented her students in a piano recital Tuesday evening, May 2, in the high school auditorium. Pine trees on which grew all shapes, sizes and colors of balloons furnished a colorful as well as an interesting background which consisted of well known compositions. Variety was added by two piano numbers and choruses. As always, reflecting ex cellent training by Mrs. Crawley, each student showed proficiency, ease and accomplishment. In the morning, at the Littleton Methodist Church, there will be special music and an appropriate sermon follow ed by the Holy Communion. At 8:00 p.m. there will be the second in the series of 50 beautiful Pic tures of the Mission Fields. This one is “Christian Dawn in Korea.” The services Sunday will mark the beginning of the new Methodist Church formed by the uniting of the Methodist Episcopal Church, the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and the Methodist Protest ant Church, with a membership of nearly 8,000,000 and a constituency of about 20,000,000.
