LEGISLATOR GETS INSPECTOR'S JOB W. D. Holoman of Hali fax Appointed to De partment of Labor Vacancy Commissioner of Labor . Forrest H. Shuford yesterday appointed William D. Holoman of Halifax County as factory inspector of the Department of Labor to succeed Clarence L Beddlngfield, recently made director of the State Ap prenticeship Council. Holoman, who represented Hali fax County in the lower House of the 1939 General Assembly, will take office about July 15. The appointment confirmed Bed dingfield's acceptance of the posi tion created by the organization of the new apprentice training board. His salary, however, re mained a matter for the Budget Bureau to determine. Commissioner Shuford said Holo man "has had much experience a long the line of his new work.” He was engaged in investigation and adjustment of accident claims for the Maryland Casualty Company for six years at Charlotte and has spent a total of nine years in the same type of service. Holoman is a native of Halifax County, a graduate of Wake For est College and a practicing attor ney at Weldon. He was born De cember 10, 1907 at Rich Square. He married Miss Rebecca Brand Williams June 2, 1931 and has one child, William Dunning, Jr. PUBLIC NOTICE 1. Halifax Boy Dies Henry Shaw Gregory, 7, died in the Roanoke Rapids Hospital on July 11, after having been there two days with an infection of the blood stream. He was carried to his home in Halifax for burial ser vices. Federal Loan Head Shrewd and conservative Jesse Jones, of Texas, silverhaired chief of the Reconstrnction Finance Cor poration, has been picked by Presi dent Roosevelt to head the new Fed eral Loan Agency. Under Jones will be consolidated the lending agen cies of the nation as re-grouped by F. D. R.’s plan of government re ,_ _ organization. HALIFAX COUNTY FAIR HAS NEW MANAGEMENT The dates for the Halifax County Fair for 1939 which will be held on the fair grounds midway be tween Weldon and Roanoke Rap ids, have been set for the week of October 2nd. The fair this year will be under different manage ment from the previous several years and every effort will be put forth to make it a real agricultural fair. The grounds have been leased by the Neuse-Atlantic Fairs, Inc. with headquarters in Kinston and prep arations have already begun on the 1939 program. The premium list which will be open to exhibit ors in Halifax County will be ready for distribution within the near future. Heller’s Acme Show* have been booked for the midway. A program of Grandstand acts, fireworks and local amusement is being arranged. The fair will open on Monday night, October 2nd and will run through Saturday night.
