Bowers are spending this week in Atlanta, Georgia, attending the Baptist World Alliance. Miss Mary Bynum spent several days in town this week. Mesdames N. W. Warren, E. L. Crawley and J. A. Crawley were in Roanoke Rapids Friday. J. F. Welch of Roanoke Rapids Was in town Tuesday on business. Mr. and Mrs. James Bobbitt Spent several days last week in Smithfield. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Morris and children, of Virginia, spent the week-end with Mrs. W. N. Thorn ton. Messrs, Wheeless Cole and Pete Hunt were in Raleigh Friday. Miss Kara Reid Cole is visiting in Hickory for several weeks. ' Roger Moore spent the week-end in Charlotte. Mrs. J. C. League and little daughter, Anne have returned from La Grange, Ga. Marvin and Joseph Newsom were in Raleigh Monday. Mrs. Gideon Lamb of Scotland Neck arrived Friday. She will spend a week with Dr. and Mrs. L. H. Justis. Mrs. T. N. Harrison, after a visit Of seevral weeks with Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Harrison in Greenville, has returned to her home here. Lyman Redding of Raleigh was in town over the week-end. Mrs. W. C. Dowd and John P. Leach, of Raleigh, were week-end guests of their mother, Mrs. John P. Leach. Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Johnston left Monday for the New York World Fair. Miss Laura Person, after visiting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Person, has returned to her home in Suffolk, Va. Mrs. Edward Joyner and chil dren, of Wilson, were guests of relatives in town Tuesday. Mrs. W. H. Nicholson, after spending a few days with Mrs. M. W. Ransom, has returned to Dur ham. Miss Elberta Foster was a week end guest of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. M. Foster. Miss Foster left Sun day night for the New York World Fair. Mrs. M. L. Cole is visiting her brother, J. C. Reid, in High Reck. Mrs. George Ragland and little daughter, Eve, spent a few days last week in Louisburg. Miss Helen Graves and James Thompson, of Leesburg, were guests of Mrs. A. M. Newsom Sun day. Mrs. D. A. T. Ricks, Miss Mary Faucette Ricks and T. N. Harrison k spent Sunday in Greenville. Miss Katharine Waldron of La Grange, Ga., is a guest, for two weeks, of Mrs. J. C. League. Miss Gladys Johnston of Wilson is a guest of her grandmother, Mrs. Anthony Johnston. Miss Gene Nicholson of Durham is a guest of Mrs. M. W. Ransom. Mrs. George Ragland and little daughter, Eve, visited Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Watkins in Henderson Tues day and Wednesday. Ransom, Johnston Entertain Honoring Mrs. W. H. Nicholson, of Durham and Florida, and Miss Esther Mears of Weaverville, Mrs. M. W. Ransom and Mrs. W. W. Johnston were hostesses at one of the loveliest bridge parties of the summer in the home of Mrs. Ran som. Mixed summer flowers and potted plants were attractively ar ranged in the hall, drawing room, living room, and sun parlor. Mrs. B. L. Rives was awarded high score prize and Mrs. J. N. Moseley re ceived the consolation. The hon orees, Mrs. Nicholson and Miss Mears, were presented gifts and Mrs. Whit Nelson, house guest of Mrs. Meynardie Nelson, also re ceived a gift. A salad course, hot rolls and iced tea were served. About a year ago Lowe was ar rested on a charge of breaking and entering the store of D. I. Kidd. He was tried and given a suspend ed sentence of two years. An ac complice, John Junior Wright, was arrested at that time with Lowe and received the same sentence. Since then Wright has been ap prehended for larceny and is serv ing his sentence. Lowe is being held in jail at Halifax pending trial in the Aug ust term of Superior Court.
