Taken at the Charlotte convention this week, the Presi dent of The Curolinas Motion Pictures Owners As sociation poses with Ann Rutherford, starlet of the “Judge Hardy” pictures, in a pose to satisfy any critic. , *13.606 PLEDGED IN 1940 The second annual Community Chest drive in Roanoke Rapids went over the top this week with a total of $13,606.38 pledged by citizens and industries of the city for 1940 charity and charac ter-building agencies, ac cording to a report today by Drive Chairman F. M. Sherry. Largest amount was raised by the Industrial Division from indus trial employees of the city with a total of $6,251.38 pledged. Close by was the Special Gifts Division of industries and larger individual donators who pledged $6,013.50. General Solicitation Division of in dividuals pledged $1,341.50. By Division teams the reports were as follows: Industrial em ployees : Rosemary Manufacturing Co. $1,934.29; Patterson Mills Co. $1210.00; Roanoke Mills No. 1, $1, 192.50; Roanoke Mills No. 2, $l[ 051.20; Halifax Paper Co. $432.89; Virginia Electric & Power Co. $280. 50; Manchester Board Co. $150.00. Leaders in this division were Rosemary Mfg. Co. with 21 per cent over its quota and Halifax Paper Co. with 23 per cent over its quota. In the Special Gifts Division, team standings were R. L. Towe $3,933.00; H. E. Lee $513.00; W. H. Pruden $402.50; W. P. Taylor $358.00; W. A. Thorne $330.50; F. D. Wilson $278.50; C. D. Liske $198.0o! In this division teams going over their quotas were those headed by R. L. Towe, H. E. Lee and W. P. Taylor. The General Solicitation Division report by teams was: C. W. Davis $400.00; A. N. Martin $294.00; Dr. B. Weathers $186.50; L. G. Shell $146.00; L. D. Hines $83.25; R. E. Cleaton $82.00; J. F. May $75.25; Major Newsome $44.00; Catherine Wolhar $30.50. In this division teams going over their quotas were headed by C. W. Davis, Dr. Weath ers and L. G. Shell.
