FUNERAL IS HELD FOR L. A. GRISSOM HERE WEDNESDAY Funeral services for Louis Alpheus Grissom, 68, were held at 4:80 Wed nesday afternoon in the home at 907 Madison Street, the Reverend C. T. Rogers and Reverend L L Steil officiating. Interment was in the Powell Cemetery. Mr. Grissom’s death came after an illness of about two years, dur ing which time he was a patient at the State Sanatorium. Recently he was removed to the Moore County hospital at Pinehurst where he died last Monday. Mr. Grissom was connected with the Rosemary Manufacturing Com pany here for a number of years before his illness. He had been a Mason for several years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Cullom Grissom; four daughters, Misses Mary and Norma Grissom, Mrs. C. E. Radcliffe, and Mrs. Wy ley Reaves, all of Roanoke Rapids; four sons, Frank, Henry, Horace, and Carlton Grissom of this city; and three brothers, C. W. Grissom of Kittrell, S. A. and H. A. Grissom of Henderson. Pallbearers were C. H. Speight, J. E. Hush, J. B. Batton, J. A. Pridgen, Tom Bush, J. E. McGee, J. R. Gilles, S. T. Bunn. Honorary pallbearers were T. W. Mullen, Dr. R. P. Beckwith, W. L. Manning, Dr. Upshur Higginboth am, E. B. Manning, L. S. Cannon, Thomas Lynch, E. T. Sadler, R. S. Newton, Sam Bunn, P. W. Ray, George Fisher, Willis Matthews, Robert Britton, K. H. Wright, Wil lie Reaves, all of Roanoke Rapids; man Kidd, Archie Lyles, Lynn Shell, Henry Roberts, Walter Jordan. Bernice Ryals, Russell Birdsong, and R. L. Towe. Miss Cannon Hostess The Teachers’ Bridge Club was most delightfully entertained on Saturday afternoon at the home of Miss Marjorie Cannon with Miss Cannon, Miss Hazel Whitehurst and Miss Martha Carson jointly enter taining. Sixteen guests enjoyed five progressions of contract. At the conclusion of the game the scores were collected and Mrs. T. L. Martin was found to hold the high est score and Miss Sue Elizabeth Smith was presented the floating prize. Mrs. Martin was given a lovely high score prize. A delight ful sweet course was served at five o’clock. Those enjoying this lovely party were: Mesdames Clayton Gurley, T. L. Martin, Talton O’Bri ant, Thelma Daughtry, Frank Mul ler, Misses Olive Gilbert, Sue Eliz abeth Smith, Jennie Walton, Ruth Dean, Sara Cannon, Amanda Till man. Evelyn Tillman, Kathrine teid, Betty Gates, Virginia Gates aitd Henrietta Price. j Induct New Officers Of Masonry District Deputy Grand Master Exum Bellamy presided over a regular communication of Royal White Hart Lodge No. 2, A.F. and A.M. at the installation of newly elected officers. Officers installed are: A. Leonidas Hux, Worshipful Master; Dr. David Pollock, Junior Warden, W. R. Caudle, Secretary, J. G. Butts, newly elected Senior Warden and F. H. Gregory, Treas urer will be installed at a future communication along with other offfcers to be appointed by the Worshipful Master. Instructive lectures on masonry were made by several members of Enfield Lodge No. 447. Mr. and Mrs. Willie King spent the week-end with relatives at Gas- I burg, Va. j I v i / 5 »■ . I Funeral For Mrs. Wright Held Here Funeral services for Mrs. Mar garet Clay Wright, 35, were held Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 in the Williams Funeral Home, with the Reverend C. T. Rogers officiat ing. Mrs. Wright died at the State Sanitorium last Monday after an illness of several months. Mrs. Wright is survived by her husband, Tommie Wright; five sis ters, Mrs. J. C. Wells, Mrs. J. C. Gaylord, Mrs. J. C. Whitby, Miss Lula Clary, all of Roanoke Rapids, Mrs. N. B. Lynch of Lawrencevile; two brothers, A. E. Clary of Gates ville, and Richard Clary of Law renceville. Members of the Roanoke Rapids Fire Department acted as pallbear ers. They were W. C. King, Robert Sledge, Alton Hoggard, Bruce Camp, Charlie Bristow, Godwin Lane. Honorary pallbearers were N. W. Sadler, Sam Taylor, L. E. Hasty, Paul Hasty, Earl Paul, P. W. Ray, and Raeford Green. Kelly, of Wylheville, Va., who is a Charles D. Larus Fellow at the Seminary in Richmond this year. Mr. Kelly who has just been reelected to the same fellowship for next year, is serving as instructor in Greek and Hebrew. Mr. Stell, pastor of the church, will return from the Seminary where he has been studying for the past two weeks to take up his du ties on Sunday, February 4. Godwin Buried Here This Week I Britton A. Godwin, 66, died * his home here at 217 Jaokso Street last Sunday after an illne of three days, his death coming a a result of a stroke of paralysis. Funeral services were conducted at the Williams Funeral Home at 2 .00 o’clock Tuesday afternoon by the Reverend Samuel Fann and Rev erend F. W. Haynie. Interment followed in the Roanoke Rapids Cemetery. . . Mr. Godwin is survived by nis wife, Mrs. Mary Young Godwin; a daughter, Mrs. A. J. Brigman, three sons, Escell of Roanoke Rap ids, Carson of Greensboro, and Her man of Kingston, Tenn.; two sis ters, Mrs. Rebecca Paige of Dunn, and Mrs. Emily Welch of Sioux City, Iowa; a brother, George God win of Wilmington.
