For the convenience of Herald readers, we have printed copies of the ballots they will be handed at the polls Saturday, on inside pages. The state ballot will be found on Page 2—Section A, while the Roa noke Rapids Sanitary District bal lot appears on Page 1 of Section C, and the County ballot is carried on Page 5 of Section C. It must be remembered that the copies of the ballots reprinted on inside pages are sample ballots, and the position of the names will varv RACES IN CITY COUNTY & STATE Polls Open 7 A.M.; Close At 7 P.M. Voters in Roanoke Rapids will go to the polls Saturday, May 25, to cast their ballots in the Democratic Primary in races in the city, Coun ty, and State nominations. These races are: The Sanitary District Board in Roanoke Rapids; Board of County Commissioners, Board of Education, Register of Deeds, and Judge of Recorder’s Court in the County; Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Audi tor, Commissioner of Agriculture, and Insurance Commissioner in the State nominations. Everything is in readiness for the Primary, Kelly Jenkins, chair man of the Halifax County Board of Elections, announced today. The polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. on May 25. Mr. Jenkins stated today that he received a telegram from the Chairman of the State Elections Board yesterday instructing him to remove any registrar who hands out official ballots before or dur ing the Primary in an unofficial manner. The County Chairman said that the telegram was sent to all county election boards as a re sult of a ballot scandal which was unearthed in New Bern this week. Asked what part he expected to play in the primary Saturday, Mr. Jenkins stated that he would prob ably visit each precinct in the county during the day to ascertain that the voting was being carried out according to the election laws.
