Jax To Meet Weldon On 27 Among the many other things which will precipitate upon the city Friday, September 27, the High School Yellow Jax will engage Weldon in the first football game of the year. The game will be played at Wel don in the park there. The starting whistle will sound at 3:45, giving both schools time enough to get to the field for the opening kickoff, according to S. N. Graham of the local high school this afternoon. Mrs. White Hostess The first meeting of the Contract Club was held with Mrs. T. B. White as hostess, twelve guests en joying a very delightful afternoon of bridge. Fall flowers were ef fectively used and a delightful salad course was enjoyed at refreshment time. The highest score for the afternoon was made by Mrs. Carroll Wilson. She was presented a lovely prize. Mrs. Howerton Gowen, a bride of the early summer, was al so remembered by the hostess with a gift. The delightful hospitality of Mrs. White was enjoyed by Mesdames J. M. C. Covington, Frank Williams, Frank Kemp, W. L. Medlin, Lyle Wilson, W. H. Proc tor, Pendleton Grizzard, Carroll Wilson, Frank Wilson, O. Griffin, W. S. Dean and Howerton Gowen. Mrs. Dunn Hostess The A-C Bridge Club met for the first time this fall with Mrs. John Dunn as hostess. An arrange ment of fall flowers added much beauty to the occasion and several progressions were enjoyed. After adding the scores at five o'clock a prize was given for high score, Mrs. Lyle Wilson receiving a lovely gift. A salad plate was served for re freshments. This delightful party was enjoyed by Mesdames W. C. Williams, Julian Allsbrook, Cran ford Hoyle, O. Griffin, Lyle Wil son, W. L. Medlin, T. B. White and T. J. Taylor. Mrs. î^amoetn iiosress Mrs. Charles H. Lambeth enter tained friends and members of her bridge club on Wednesday after noon, September 11, in her home on Moseby Avenue in Littleton. The home was attractively decorated with fall flowers. There were six tables of bridge, and after several progressions the hostess served ice cream on merangues. Mrs. L. H Justis won high score award for guests. Those playing were: Mes dames L. H. Justis, John P. Leach, Cleve Stallings, Horace Palmer, Henry House, Norman Mosley, An drew May, Harold C. Smith, C. A. Jones, Luther Williams, Horace Robinson, M. Nelson, George Rag land, Roger C. Moore, Charles C Abernathy, M. D. Beecher, Dennis A. R#se, Robert Thorne, Raymond Ward, E. Leslie Crawley, Alice Browning, William Leach anc George Crawley. Wednesday Club Meets The Wednesday Afternoon Clut enjoyed a very interesting and de lightful afternoon of bridge at the home of Mrs. Clayton Gurley with Mrs. Gurley and Mrs. Lew Yergei jointly entertaining. Cut flowers and potted plants were effectively used, forming a pretty background for the three tables of players. Mrs Β. E. Stephenson and Mrs. T. J Taylor, members of the club whc will leave soon for South Carolina were both remembered with a gift Mrs. Herman Tickle of Washington was also remembered by the host esses and the high score for tht afternoon was made by Mrs. Β. Ε Stephenson. She was given a lovelj prize. For refreshments a salac plate with coffee was served. En joying the afternoon with Mrs Gurley and Mrs. Yerger were: Mes dames R. A. Daniel, Jr., Wyche Land, Clyde Lisks, Β. E. Stephen son, Ray Rogers, Rives Manning, Edwin Akers, Elmer Starke, Bot Montieth, Thelma Daughtry, Her man Tickle and Roderick Meikle. Banghart and chil dren, Dolly Ann and Donald, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Jeffers this week. Mrs. Banghart is Mr. Jeffers' sister. They were return ing from New York World's Fair and Washington, D. C., leaving here Wednesday for their home in Keokuk, Iowa. Dr. Marshall To Speak At Gaston The first meeting of the Gaston P.T.A. will be held in the school auditorium, Monday night, Sept. 23, beginning at 7:30 o'clock. The prin cipal feature of the program will be an address by Dr. Otis Mar shall of Washington, D. C. Dr. Marshall is conducting a First Aid school at the Jackson High School under the auspices of the North impton County Red Cross. He is a most interesting lecturer, and his address on Monday night will un doubtedly be highly enjoyed by all who will be so fortunate as to hear him, it is said. There will also be in entertainment feature by a ?roup of children frpm the elemen tary grades. An earnest appeal is made to all patrons and friends of the school :o attend the meeting on Monday light and help to make a good start ior the year in the P.T.A. work. Lt. and Mrs. Graham Dean and son have been the guests of Mr. Dean's parents Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Dean. Mr. Dean left this week for Fort Knox but Mrs. Dean and son will remain here for a few weeks.
