At this point this Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock the parade will stop and a short ceremony will be held, dedicating the ground for the new building. The parade will pass by the reviewing stand here and march onto the ground where the building will be erected, adjacent to the high school building. (Photo by Brasington) PROCLAMATION As Mayor of the City of Roanoke Rapids, I do hereby designate and proclaim Friday, September « 27, 1940, as Roanoke Rapids' National Guard Day in honor of Company Β of the 105th Regiment, and admonish the full observance of it by the whole public. I hereby urge and request all citizens of Roanoke Rapids to witness the street parade at 1 o'clock P. M., and to attend the Ceremonies at the New Ar mory site, at the corner of 9th and Hamilton streets, at 2 o'clock P. M., the benefit Softball games at 5 o'clock P. M. at the Rosemary Recrea tion Park and at 8 o'clock P. M. at the Roanoke Mills No. 2 Park. I further request all business houses to close their places of business for the Parade and to dis play their flags and other appropriate decorations throughout the day. BROUGHTON of Raleigh will be a guest in Roanoke Rapids this Friday and will join in the ceremonies honoring Company B, 105th Regiment, in the dedication of the site for the new Roanoke Rapids Armory and in the informal opening of the Roanoke Rapids Country Club. Newell, And Other Dignitaries In Review Stand Tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 27) Roanoke Rapids is all set for the big day when Company Β is to be honored with a turn out of all pa triotic citizens and friends of the boys who leave Sunday for a year*» camp. The weather permitting, the program will go as outlined and worked on by the committee ia It was decided tonight that rain Dr shine, the parade goes on. If it rains, the armory program will be held in the High School auditori um, otherwise at the site on the corner of Hamilton and 9th where the armory will be built. The Girl Scouts will march in .he parade with the Boy Scouts, the lassies having decided they would march or else. Order ot parade, outlined to the committee tonight by parade chairman C. C. Shell, is: 1. State Highway Patrol car. 2. 105th Regiment Band. 3. 2olor Guard. 4. Company B. 5. Solor Guard. 6. Ex-Service Men. Γ. High School Color Guard. 8. High School Band. 9. Girl Scouts. L0. White Boy Scouts. 11. Colored Boy Scouts. The Weldon Boy Scouts were to light invited to join in the pa rade. The parade will start about 1 o'clock and end at the High School after a march up the Avenue to Uth. Prior to the parade Company Β and the Regiment Band will be ?iven a barbecue and stew at the VEPCO Recreation Club on the old canal. The committee of 18, under F. M. Sherry as chairman, will feed the boys. The parade will pass a reviewing stand at the corner of Hamilton ind 9th, the armory site, and turn η on the grounds where the arm ory will be built. On the stand ivill be Hon. J. M. Broughton of Raleigh, Colonel Newell of the L05th Regiment and possibly other officers of the regiment, Alfred Terrell, Spanish-American War (Continued on Page 12, Sec. A) HAVE INFORMAL OPENING FRIDAY An informal opening of the Roa noke Rapids Country Club will be held tomorrow night for the mem bers of the club and their invited guests. Among the guests will be Alfred Terrell, vice-president of the Simmons Company, Hon. J. M. Broughton, nominee for Governor of North Carolina, and Mrs. Broughton. The clubhouse will be open to siiiËÉ the members and guests at 8:30. The first hour or so will be spent in an informal social hour, while dancing will be enjoyed from about 9:30 to 12:30. A five piece orches tra from Richmond will furnish the music. The opening night climaxes a period of much activity in repair ing, refurnishing, and improving the club house and grounds. Worlds of work has been done and wonders have been accomplished since the new Roanoke Rapids Country Club was organized a few months ago. The clubhouse has been rework ed, with additions of locker rooms and shower rooms being built at the back. A terrace has been built at the front. Heat has1 been in stalled. A deep well has i>een sunk and the building is supplied with hot and cold running water. The entire building has been re furnished. New kitchen and dining room furniture has been installed. Complete sets of china, glassware, and silver has been purchased and set up. New rugs, new easy chairs, light fixtures have been placed in the house. Tables with accompa nying umbrellas have been set up on the outdoor terrace. The large west room Is being used for a dining room. The on :rance is at the east. The drive way is being enlarged, in order to jive more space for parking pur poses. The circle in front of the Duilding is being made bigger. G. A.
