ROAB WORK STOPS
UNTIL NEXT YEAR
Work on the new road between
the river anil Gaston near here
reached an advanced stage this
week. AH the heavy machinery for
moving large amounts of dirt was
loaded up by Contractors Gregory
and Poole and carried to Hertford
County, where they will next work,
according to N. C. Beale, Super
intendent of Construction.
Only dirt-moving left for them
is a finishing soil which will be
used to top-off the high fills. The
river bottom soil was not suitable.
This finishing soil will have to be
hauled in by trucks.
About a foot of this finishing
soil will be placed on top of the
road. The road will then be left
until next April when the final
surfacing will be done. The top
soiling, graveling, and oiling will
take about six weeks next spring.
The road will be left in an un
finished stage. No traffic will be
allowed on it this winter.

Mr. Willkie is telling the New
England States to vote for him
^nd he will bring back the good old
days to them, when their section
was the textile center of the U. S.
He beraLcs the South for unfair
practice in getting industry to
move South. Would he move the
mills from the South back to New
England? Is the business man
playing politics? Is he promoting
sectionalism? Is he guilty of the
very same vices he charges against
the Democrats? We do not know.
We do not know Mr. Willkie. Do
you?
