JACK BENNY
Will Be Feature Film Next Week
Jack Benny, one of the leading
radio artists of the nation, car
ries his duel of words with Fred
Allen, another of the country’s ra
dio leaders, to the screen when he
comes to the local theatres next
week in ’Love Thy Neighbor.”
Allen and Mary Martin play the
other leading roles. The film will
be seen at the Peoples Theatre on
Sunday only; it will be shown at
the Imperial on Monday and
Tuesday.
This latest screen effort of Ben
ny’s is said to be his best. This
time he and Fred Allen, radio
comedian of New York, get to
gether on the screen and pat in
to action the war that the two
have waged since they both be
came famous on the air.
Mary Martin will supply the ro
mantic interest. She plays the
part of Allen’s niece with whom
Benny falls in love. She changes
her name so Benny will not find
her out and the story goes merri
ly on until her right name is dis
covered. |

Monday and Tuesday at the
Peoples will be seen the epic sto
ry, “Arizona”, with Jean Arthur,
William Holden, Warren William,
and Porter Hall.
This film, which took months
to make at an expense unbeliev
able, is said to be one of the
mightiest of Westerns. In it the
theatre goer will be privileged to
see the birth of the big and pow
erful state of Arizona. With the
drama of a tumultuous era there
is the story of a tempestuous love,
enacted by Miss Arthur and Hol
den.
Directed by the great Wesley
Ruggles and based on a story by
Clarence Buddington Kelland, the
picture has been reviewed as the
mightiest outdoor picture of them
all. It is full of action, swift and
dramatic. It is breathtaking in
its scope.

Another in the series of Maisie
pictures, “Maisie Was A’ Lady”,
starring Ann Sothern, will be seen
at the Peoples Theatre on Wed
nesday and Thursday of next
week. Lew Ayres, of Dr. Kildare
fame, will be opposite Miss Soth
ern.
Miss Sothern continues her role
of Maisie Ravier, the showgirl
perennially in need of a job, and
holding one temporarily this time
as the “Headless Woman” in a
carnival sideshow. But through
Lew Ayres, who deserts his Dr.
Kildare characterization to play
the young inebriate playboy, Bob
Rawlston, she loses her job. He,
contrite at having been the cause
of her unemployment, gives her
work as a maid in his home.
Then the fun starts.
Maureen O’Sullivan is seen as
Abby Rawlston, Bob’s sister, who
makes Maisie her personal at
tendant. C. Aubrey Smith is the
perfect Rawlston butler, Walpole,
shocked by Maisie’s unconven
tionalities.
