, PROFIT-SHARING ! BILL INTRODUCED BEFORE ASSEMBLY Two new bills relating to Hali fax County were introduced in the General Assembly late last week. House Bill 774, introduced by Alls brook amd Everett, was to pro vide for municipalities in the county to share in the profit from liquor sales. The Senate Bill provides for the fixing of the salaries of the Judge and Solicitor of the Recorder’s Court and the Special Deputy Clerk of the Superior Court Acting Clerk of the Recorder’s Court. The House Bill, the major con tents of which were agreed upon at a meeting of County Commis sioners and representatives from several municipalities in the coun ty together with the three legis lators from the County in Raleigh last week, provides for the muni cipalities in the county, with the exception of Littleton, to receive 17 per cent of the net profits from the ABC Stores within the res pective towns or cities. •Settlement is to be made the first Monday in July, 1941, and quarterly thereafter. Littleton is to receive only such part of the 17 per cent as it re ceives from the Warren County ABC Store operated in Littleton. All ABC profits in Halifax coun ty to be used exclusively for debt service. The bill passed second reading in the House on March 8, as amended to require municipal net profit from Halifax County ABC store sales to go into debt ser vice. Senate Bill 242, introduced by E. L. Travis, would fix the salary of Judge of Recorder’s Court at $1,800 yearly; Solicitor at $1,500; and Clerk at $1,380. Action of other bills was as follows: Senate Bill 215, fixing salary of Clerk of Superior Court and Register of Deeds, passed sec ond and third reading on March 5 as amended to make salary in creases effective on April 1 instead of March 1; House Bill 210, for Scotland Neck elections, enrolled and ratified, March 4; House Bill 310, Halifax tax collectors, enroll ed and ratified March 4. LETTERS (Continued from Page 1) leading Broughton campaign man agers and supporters in the dis trict and State, by legislators in Raleigh and Washington, and by Young Democratic Clubs over the State. Mr. Wilson has been Pres * ■ ■ — ■ , — ■ ident of the Halifax County Young Democratic Club for the past six years and a member of the State Executive Committee two terms. He was County Fin ance Chairman of the Roosevelt - Wallace campaign and won first prize in the State for raising funds for the National Democratic Com mittee. He has been endorsed, among others, by R. J. Reynolds, now National Democratic Treas urer. During the recent primary, Mr. Wilson was co-chairman for Mr. Broughton of Halifax County and in charge of publicity for Eastern North Carolina. Halifax County gave the Governor a smashing plurality. Insiders at Raleigh are giving odds on the appointment of the young newspaper owner from Hal ifax County. ALLSBROOK (Continued from Page 1) er spoke without bringing intelli gence to the discussion. So, while usefulness was not determined upon position or even power, the Allsbrook rating was made on the importance to which he put his speaking power. He was a hard worker in all the com mittee assignments which he drew and there was no difficulty among the scribes and the chatterers when they came to appraise the personalities before them. There was no concert of action. Each ballott was independently and se cretly east. It was the Allsbrook speech on the newly constituted Welfare Boards in the state, a greatly con troverted issue, which appeared to have silenced the opposition Wed nesday when that bill passed with out any votes against it. And more than any other House mem ber, he has been credited with sparing the State that referendum demanded by the united dry forc es. MISSING FARMER FOUND SHOT DEAD The body of Luther L.
