4 GIRLS HURT IN WRECK Four girls, three of which live between Scotland Neck and Enfield and one whose home is at Tillery, were seriously injured in a high way accident about six miles from Scotland Neck this morning about 11 o’clock. Two are in a critical condition. The four are in a Rocky Mount hospital. They are Beatrice Barkely, Glad ys Green, Margie Twisdale, and Mildred Pittman. Another girl in the accident, Thurla Parks, was not injured sufficiently to be admitted to the hospital. All the girls are between the ages of 16 and 18, according to Patrol man H. W. Rothrock who investi gated the accident. All five are high school seniors and were plan ning to graduate tomorrow night. The girls had borrowed a station wagon from Mayor Ben Brady at Scotland Neck and were driving toward Enfield when they turned over on a curve. Gladys Green was driving the machine at the time of the accident. Facts vs. Fiction By BILL RIGGAN Both Roanoke No. 1 and Roa noke No. 2 will play The Rocky Mount All-Stars at No. 2 Park Friday night, May 16. The Rocky Mount All-Stars have defeated the Romances twice this season and from all indications should bring to this city one of the strongest clubs ever to come here. On Sat urday night Roanoke No. 1 & No. 2 will meet Henderson at No. 2 Park; tb‘,,^ Henderson aggregation licked Roanoke No. 1 at Hender son last Saturday night, May 2, so fans, you know Managers Shearod Crumpler and Oakley Vaughan are bringing only the teams that are The Cream of the Crop to Roanoke No. 1 & No. 2 Park. The girls Soft Ball Club now boast of twenty one players and last night at a meeting, it was de cided that they would open their season possibly next week-end It looks, today, as if the girls are going to have one of the best teams in the state and if they don’t win the Championship the Champions will know they’ve had a game when the smoke has cleared. The girls who are already on the team are: Ina Mae Hux, Alberta Jones, Sarah McNeill, Ver ona (Jutland, Mildred Jones, Ruth Jenkins, Thelma Taylor, Margaret “Boog-it” Butler, Mable Bryant, Helen Stewart, Elizabeth Drake, Peggy Matthews, Edna Earl Jones, Dorothy Champion, Margie Lee, Hazel Lee, Jewel Brigman, Maxine Mason, Violet Keeter, Ula Mat thews. The B team will have Jake Jenkins as their coach and Captain and from all indications, Jake is going to have a scrappy ball club. Things I never knew until Sat urday I attended the feed the Ball Club had at Hoots Hill. Nathan Taylor was a geologist. Johnnie Renn was Financier. Reginald Matthews was a man of great endurance (remember the ten trays of Stew) or should I say a “glutton for punishment”. And Clem Brown, Robert Rogers and Braxton Cooper were men of great rememberance. L. I. STELL TO PREACH TO NURSES Rev. Lawrence I.
