conjunction with the Highway,
Safety Patrol, has arranged to con- i
duct a safety course for all school

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thurs
day, August 26-27-28.
Superintendent V. C. Matthews,
of Halifax County schools said that
all applicants for jobs as school bus
drivers will be notified to attend
in groups. There were 48 drivers,
33 white and 15 Negro, in the coun
ty last year, and about 70 persons
are being considered as drivers for
the coming year.
All are being notified to attend
in groups of about one-third the
total number each day, with the
Negro applicants all reporting on
the last day—August 28.
Only white drivers going to Au

R. Davie, and Weldon will report
the first day, Tuesday morning,
August 26. Drivers of buses that
go to Enfield, Hardrawee, Scotland
Neck and Hobgood will report on
Wednesday morning, August 27.

the safety school, and letters are
being sent out to all white prospec
tive drivers telling them when to
report.
Anyone notified to attend the
safety school is not assured of a
job driving the buses, however,
Supt. Matthews said. The classes
are to determine if the applicants
for the jobs can qualify as school
bus drivers and the final selection
will be made by the Highway Pa
trolmen and the county mechanic.

sidered as a driver should report,

Subject Sunday, "Soul”.
"SPIRIT” was the subject of the
Lesson-Sermon in all Christian
Science Churches and Societies on
Sunday, August 10. [
The Golden Text was from Ephe
sians 5:9. "The fruit of the Spirit
is in all goodness and righteous
ness and truth.”
Among the citations which com
prised the Lesson-Sermon were the
following from the Bible: “And it
shall come to pass afterward, that
t will pour out my spirit upon all
flesh; and your sons and your
daughters shall prophesy, your old
men shall dream dreams, your
young men shall see visions: And
also upon the servants and upon
the handmaids in those days will
I pour out my spirit” (Joel 3: 28,
29).
