STATE SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT FOR MEN AT RALEIGH Girls1 Teams To Play At Mt. Holly This Year John Marshall of Raleigh, secre tary of the North Carolina Softball Association, announced today that Raleigh again will be the scene of battling in the annual State softball tournament, but this time only entrants in the men’s division will compete there. The tournament for girls’ teams will be played at Mt. Holly. Decision to hold play in the two divisions at different points was reached at a meeting in Greens boro of district commissioners of the association, presided over by Secretary Marshall. The tournaments will be played August 28, 29, 30. There’s a strong possibility that play in the men’s meet here will open a day earlier, in order to reduce the field to the maximum—eight teams—which can be handled in three days of elimin ations. There are eight districts in the State setup, and each is en titled to send a team to the State meet. The association also is invit ing each Army post in the State to hold its eliminations and qualify a champion for the State meet. If there are acceptances from the Ar my posts, there’ll be sufficient “preliminaries” on August 27 to cut the tournament field to eight teams. Pairings for the elimina tions will be by drawing from the entire field. F. S. Kemp of this city is Com missioner of the First District, and the district playoffs will be held here this month.
