I have just got back from a week;
at Minnesott Beaeh, Arapahoe, N.
C. It’s a very small plaee located
on the Neuse River about twenty
miles below New Bern, N. C., di
rectly in front of where the new
Marine base will be located. Fish
ing was not so good. But for good
swimming, and real relaxation it’s
a swell plaee to go.—Fishing was
good for everyone but me!
—o—•
Our party stayed at Ashford Cot
tages, located right on the river
front. The cottages are managed
by Dick Martin, a local boy. Every
body here in Roanoke Rapids knows
Dick Martin. _ After playing in
orchestras and stage shows from
coast to coast, Dick has decided to
settle down in a nice quiet spot
like Minnesott and help people
have a vacation.
> -O—
If you are interested in a quiet
place for a vacation, or week-end
trip this summer or winter, drop
Dick Martin a line at Minnesott
Beach, Arapahoe, N. C., and he will
fix you right up. This winter he
plans to operate a hunting lodge,
just across the river. I’ll say this
much for ^Dick—he is considerate
of your every need; in other words,
my friends, he is a perfect host.

years”.

SAVED
A set of false teeth belonging
to a resident of a Scotland Neck
dwelling was the only property
saved when the building was
destroyed by fire.
The frame house was occu
pied by two Negro families, and
caught fire from a defective
stove. It was owned by K. C.
Josey, Jr., and the loss prac
tically was covered by insur
ance.
After the flames were extin
guished a plea was made to
James Wilkerson of the Scot
land Neck fire department to
search for the missing molars.
He probed the ruins, and found
them unharmed lying on a par
tially burned table.

PAINTING
The hospital here is getting a
new coat of paint on the inside, and
painters have already finished with
the third floor.
Work is now being done on the
second floor, and part of the first
floor has been painted.
Still Nothing
In the story about pay in
creases for city employees last
week it was stated that the city
commissioners also got a raise
in salary, which was in fact
erroneous because the city
board members are not paid
anything for their services.
However, the reporter writ
ing the story was correct in one
sense—10 per cent of nothing
is still nothing, and that’s what
the commissioners get although
other city employees and of
ficials got a 10 per cent in
crease in pay.
