MAN .__ _ Election Of State YDC Officials Will Be At Convention A. Leonidas Hux of Halifax, young Clerk of the Superior Court of Halifax County, has been ad vanced for the State Presidency of the Young Democratic Clubs of North Carolina by the Halifax County club and has the backing of the clubs of the Second Con gressional District, his home dis trict. Election of State YDC officials will be held at the State conven tion at Winston-Salem, September 18, 19, and 20. L. H. Fountain of Tarboro, Pres ident of the Edgecombe County Young Democrats, announced yes terday that he would not be a can didate for the State Presidency and would support Hux. A similar stand has been taken by Gene Sim mons, of Tarboro, who had been mentioned for the post. This leaves the young Halifax Clerk the only candidate from the 2nd District, consisting of Halifax, Edgecombe, Wilson, Lenoir, Northampton, Ber tie, Warren and Greene counties. Endorsements by the individual clubs point out that the 2nd Dis trict has never had a State Presi dent and call attention to Hux’s record of a half dozen years faith ful attendance at State conven tions and work for the State or erani zatinn. Youngest Clerk Hux, youngest Clerk of the Su perior Court in the State, is now serving his 7th year in that office in Halifax County. His excellent record has attracted attention of jurists, attorneys and other clerks. He is serving his fourth term as Secretary of the State Association of Clerks of the Superior Court and has been first Vice President of that organization. Governor Broughton appointed him National Defense Chairman for Halifax County and Hux has just complet ed a successful aluminum drive in the county, collecting over 3,0C0 pounds which is said to be the rec ord for this portion of the State. A native of Halifax County, he ' is a Mason, now serving his second term as Master of Royal White Hart Lodge No. 2 of Halifax, which still meets in the oldest building in the world used exclusively for Ma sonry. Active in civic, social and political life of the county, Hux is affiliated with the Halifax Ruritan Club, the Junior Order of United American Mechanics, Woodmen of the World and Knights of Pythias. His wife is the former Miss Anna Carr of Duplin County. They have one daughter, Sandra Jane, age 4. Mrs. Hux is 1st Vice President of the Halifax Young Democratic Club and is a member of the State YDC Executive Committee. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lewis Steph enson and son, of Fremont, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Major Newsom. Burton Davis of East Falls Church, Va., was a visitor here Fri day. I Canadian Air Force Student Pilot At Home A member of the Royal Canadian Air Force, Seth Thomas Parker, who is training as a pilot at Toron to, spent a few days recently with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Parker, of Garysburg. The young aviator joined the Canadian forces last Winter, and he hopes to complete his training as a pilot within the next 30 days After completing his training, Parker either will be sent to Eng land or remain in Canada as an in structor. He is a graduate of Sea board High School. Northampton Board Allots Lunch Room Sum The Northampton County board of commissioners has approved an appropriation of $200 to purchase supplies and material for canning vegetables and fruits for school lunch room projects, it was an nounced today. " Schools v/hich have lunch rooms and garden projects operated b> WPA will benefit from the appro priation. They are Seaboard, white and Negro schools; Rich Square, white and Negro schools; and the Lasker white school. Approve Five New Teachers in Northampton Northampton County’s Board of Education has app oved five new teachers to teach in schools of that county during the coming school year. They are: Miss Rachel Poe, of Oxford, to teach English at Woodland-Olney High School; Miss Katherine Evans of Murfreesboro, home economics, at Woodland; Miss Georgia Belle Cooper, of Sa lemburg, first grade at Jackson; Miss Elizabeth Putham, first grade at Rich Square; and Miss Elizabeth Sherman, fifth grade at Woodland. Freak Accident Considerable damage was done to a new automobile belonging to Mr. Otho Bone of Jackson in a freak accident last week. The car, which was unattended at the time, had been parked by Mrs. Bone a short distance from a large truck. The driver of the truck lost control while trying to start his machine, and then the motor suddenly caught with the truck in gear. This caused the truck to lunge backwards into the car before it could be brought under control. Miss Lucille Magee and Rosa Brickell are spending two weeks at the beach. Halifax Woman j Gets Certificate Farm-Home Week _ j i Mrs. J. D. Suits of Halifax County was one of the 81 farm women receiving a certificate at the Honor Day exercises for Home Demonstration Club members when the annual Farm and Home Week ended at State College, Raleigh, last week. Certificates were awarded those who have been members of Home Demonstration Clubs for at least four years, and who last week com pleted four years of classwork at a farm and home convention. Miss Margaret Edwards, head of the home economics department at the Woman’s College in Greens boro, was the principal speaker at the Honor Day exercises, and cer tificates were presented to the class of 1941 by Col. John W. Har relson, Administrative dean of State College and Dr. Jane S. Mc Kimmon, assistant director of ex tension. “The homemaker,’’ Miss Edwards said, “has the most difficult and complex job. She must be mother, housekeeper, cook, nurse, seam stress, buyer, decorator and host ess”. She urged the farm women to be good homemakers and to make the crown of their homes “Godliness”, the foundation “Un derstanding", the charm “Person ality”, the beauty “Order", the service “Work", the spirit “Hos pitality”, the faith “Respect”, the strength “Unity”, the blessing “Contentment”, and the benedic tion “Affection”. Wheeler - Hutchinson Mr. and Mrs. Garland Wheeler announce the marriage of their daughter, Mary Nellie, to William Earl Hutchinson, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Hutchinson, of this city, on August 2nd, at Lexington, South Carolina.
