C. THURSDAY, SEPT. 11, 1941 NUMBER 7 UNVEILING OF MEMORIAL TO DR. LONG Judge R Hunt Parker of this city is shown above, left, eulogizing the late Dr. T. W. M. Long at the Roanoke Rapids Hospital when the memorial tablet (center) waa unveiled. Judge Parker was the chief speaker at the exercises, and the memorial was p laced in the foyer of the hospital by the Roanoke Rapids Hospital Nurses Alumnae Association. There are around forty members of the local hospital alumnae associatio n here, some of whom were present for the unveiling and are shown in the picture at the right. Mrs. AJdie F. Medlin, president of the association, is shown second from the left in the front row of the group. (See Story on Page 1, Section B) Romancos Win! The Romancos of this city, State softball champs, defeat ed Covington, Kentucky, this morning in the national tour nament at Detroit, Mich., 1-0, in a 14-inning game. Each team made three hits. One error was chalked up to Kentucky, but none for the lo cals. DeBerry pitched for the Ro mances, and Stewart caught. For Kentucky, defending cham pions in the national softball tourney, West pitched, and Dun lap caught. This afternoon the Romancos defeated South Carolina, 6-1, to be among sixteen teams remain ing in the tourney. CITY OFFICIALS APPROVE FIVE SIGNALS FOR AVENUE (Story On Page 6, Section A) ROSEMARY, INC., SALESMEN | CANDIDATE HUX TJew York salesmen of Rosemary, Incorporated, were here on a visit two days last week to become acquainted with local mill officials and learn something about how the textiles they sell are manufactured.
