NEGRO IS HELD AS RESULT OF ROAD FATALITY -----1 “I Henry Mills Killed; Driver Of Car Held Jack Pearson, Negro, is being held in the Northampton County jail at Jackson in connection with the death of Henry Mills, Jackson Negro, who was killed in an auto mobile accident Sunday night about 8:30 o’clock. Mills was fatally injured when the automobile Pearson was driv ing overturned near the entrance to the Moefield Farm between Jack son and Weldon. The men were enroute to Weldon when the acci dent happened. It was reported here that the car ran off the high way onto the dirt shoulder, for some reason or other overturned to break Mills’ neck, and he died al most instantly. The car landed right side up after turning over. Pearson, who was not seriously hurt, is charged with careless and reckless driving while under the influence of an intoxicating bev erage, or drug, and causing the death of Mills. |*+t I»» « * « ■ :: Calvary-Thelma j i :: \i Mr. and Mrs. Bryant Reid, Bill and Jack Bobbitt and Miss Ethel Bobbitt spent Sunday in Hopewell, Va. Suiter, spoke for the Methodist; and the Rev. D. P. Moore for the Episcopalians. The Rev. Mr. Finlater then preached a splendid sermon. Mem bers of the choirs of the three churches, and the Junior Choir sang. Mrs. Charles Vincent and Mrs. “Buster” Winbourn of Murfrees boro were visitors here Monday. Sgt. Dickens spent Friday in Scotland Neck and attended the funeral of her aunt. Any person violating the pro visions of this section shall be fined $10.00 for each and every of fense. This ordinance shall be effective October 1, 1941.
