68 BOYS TAKING COURSE A total of 68 boys registered in four defense pre-employment courses are receiving training at Mclver High School at Littleton which has recently got underway by W. B. Jamieson, vocational ag riculture teacher, who is supervis ing the work, and A. L. Finch, principal. The Courses which are being of fered are Auto Mechanics, which deals with the operation, care, re pair of tractors, trucks and auto mobiles. Metal work, which in cludes welding, tempering drilling, shaping and Machinery repair. El ementary Electricity, which also in cludes operation care, repair of e lectrical equipment and wiring for light and power. Woodworking course—This course includes rough carpentry work, such as construc tion of barns, poultry houses, hog houses, trailer bodies, build or re pair any farm building. The boys in woodworking are enjoying the course very much, so far, they are working at night, and securing light by the use of exten sion cords, which enable them to construct two brooder houses. LEAGUE PARTY The Epworth League had a Hal loween party on Friday night at the Boy Scout Hut. Games were played and refreshments were serv ed at 10 o’clock. Everyone had a wonderful time. On Sunday night the League was entertained by a program put on by its members. They were Lucy May Babbs, Bill Bobbitt, Mildred Allen, and Alton Finch. The pro gram was, “Let Us Praise God”. There were two council meetings this past week. They decided on the programs for the next two Sun days. The program for Sunday night will be, “The Threat of Paganism”. Douglas Hasty will have charge of the program. Those to take part are Irma Lee Grant, Ed Johnson, Charlotte Grant and Harvey Wood ruff. The Epworth League welcomes any young people that might be in terested in visiting or oining with then. CLASS MEETS The T.E.L. Class of Rosemary Baptist Church held the October meeting Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Grover C. Ricks. After the business wa3 transact ed the hostess served ice cream and cake. Attending were Mesdames J. W. Briton, F. W. Haynie, P. A. Cooke, H. T. Davis, Josie Francis, W. M. Irwin, L. B. Crouch, and W. J. Jordan. Mrs. B. O .Davis of Texas was a visitor. WOMAN’S SOCIETY The Woman’s Society of Chris tian Service held the October meet ing in the home of Mrs. Dora Haw kins. Eighteen members and five visitors were present. Miss Mildred Powell led the de votional and gave a very helpful talk to all. After the meeting adjourned the society honored one of its mem bers, Mrs. Eb Williams, a recent bride, with a miscellaneous shower. A salad plate with ice tea was served. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Coleman, who have been gueets of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Rightmyer, left Wednesday to spend the winter in Florida. Dr. and Mrs. W. E. Murphrey and children, Willis and Ann, spent the week-end in Raleigh. Mrs. W. E. Hawkins and son, Bill, have returned from Raleigh where they spent the week-end w'th Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Smith. Mr. and Mra. Hubert Speight were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Pegram in Littleton Sunday. PRO-DIVORCE The international situation was brought into a divorce ac tion by a woman, whose parents are reported to be living at Weldon, at Fayetteville, Arkan sas, last week when Mrs. Char lotte Ann Von Mikusch-Buch berg was granted a divorce --■ from Johannes Donatus Von Mikusch-Buchberg of Newark, N. J. Mrs. Von Mikusch-Buchberg charged her husband’s enthusi astic sympathy for Nazi Ger many led to personal indignities to her. She established legal residence in Fayetteville, Ark., last summer to obtain the di vorce, which was not contested. She testified last Thursday that her husband, a chemist, was pro -German, that she was pro-British and that the result was they would get into quarrels and that as a climax to these, he would strike her. Mrs. Linwood Robbins spent last Tuesday in Norfolk. Mrs. J. R. Melton has returned to Norfolk. Miss Mary Woodruff attended the Peanut Festival in Suffolk, Va., last week-end and also the Virginia -V.P.I. game at Norfolk, Va., Sat urday. Mrs. J. Sam Powell, Mrs. A. L.
