Need Youths For Work Cn NYA Project A hundred boys, white and Ne gro, will be needed to work on the construction of the Scotland Neck NYA center, which is sched uled to begin on January 1. Wade H. Dickens, chairman of the Defense Projects Committee of the Scotland Neck Business Bu reau, said that the youth labor, ages from 16 to 25 and not in school, would be used for construc tion work under the supervision of experienced foremen. It is planned to provide employment for both races during the con struction period. Those who are interested in se curing such employment are urged to contact Mrs. Lanie Hayes, per sonnel officer for the NYA, who is at the Town Hall in Scotland Neck every Friday morning from 10:30 to 12:30 o’clock. Leaders Of Troop 144 Are Picked Leaders of Boy Scout Troop 144 here have been selected as fol lows: Patrol leaders -Donald Moseley, Billy Atkinson, Dickie Wilson, Cy ril Waters. Assistant patrol leaders—Carlton Black, Eugene Hudson, Jimmie El more, Willie Jordan. Patrols are: Flaming Arrow, Flying Eagle, Cobra and Buffalo. Willie Mincher is Scoutmaster of the troop; Richard Webb, assistant 'scoutmaster; James Bennett and Lewis Edwards, junior assistant scoutmasters; and Alvin Pitt is Senior Patrol leader. Funeral Services Mrs. Hedgepeth Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Hedgepeth were held at the home of her son, Isaac Hedgepeth, at Dawsons on Wednesday afternoon of last week at 2 o’clock. The Rev. E. C. Crawford officiated. Burial was in the Hedgepeth fam ily cemetery near Darlington. Mrs. Hedgepeth, who was 91 years old, died at the home of her son, near Enfield. She is survived by two daugh ters, Mrs. Lucy Thompson of Dur ham and Mrs. Dahlia Warren of Roanoke Rapids; four sons, Ed Hedgepeth of Hopewell, Va., Lar tha Hedgepeth of Oxford, Isaac Hedgepeth of Enfield, and Percy Hedgepeth of Henderson. Several grandchildren and great-grandchil dren also survive. Basketball At William R. Davie Friday Night Basketball teams of William R. Davie and Gaston schools will play a doubleheader at William R. Davie tomorrow night, Dec. 12. First game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 o’clock, and Nathan Rey nolds is scheduled to referee both games. Publish News Grade School A mimeographed newspaper is being published here by the grad ed schools, and is called "Grade School News”. Caroline Broun is named as editor-in-chief; Dwight jSlting as business manager; and Anne Grizzard, art editor. Miss Lavada Bartley of Norfolk was the week-end guest of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. William Harris, former residents of this city, were here Saturday en route to Ilvi flerson. • Mr. and Mrs. Z. A. Powell of Richmond spent the week-end here with relatives. REVOCATIONS Among the revocations of driv ing licenses announced by the North Carolina Highway Safety Division today are the following: John Carter of Littleton, Halifax recorder's court for drunken driv ing; Lee Anderson of Jackson, re corder’s court at Jackson for drunken driving; Jim Webb, route 1, Pleasant Hill, Halifax recorder’s court for drunken driving. Robert Medlin of Sanatorium is spending ten days here at his home in South Rosemary. Buddy Edmondson and Pleasant Taylor of Newport News spent the week-end here with their parents. Miss Frances Forest, who is at tending business school in Rich mond, spent the week-end here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Forest. T. E. Cox of Norfolk spent the week-end here with Mrs. Cox. Among those home from Fort Jackson this week-end were Cur tis Butler, Troy Merritt, Billie Burton, John Connor, Paul Over ton and David Lyles. Buddy Edmonds of Baltimore spent the week-end here.
